The creation of the Constitution's three branches of government was to provide separate and limited powers in order to protect inalienable rights and to be a true government of the people, with clearly defined roles and limits of power. The executive, legislative, judicial branches are in place to ensure the rights of the people, to protect individual freedoms, prevent the government from abusing its power, and to adjudicate with fairness.
