Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
In the Declaration of Independence, our Founders recognized God as the highest source of authority. The Constitution stands above all other laws, executive acts, and regulations and limits the power of government.
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
The Founders understood the nature of mankind to abuse power and they feared the potential abuse of powers of government. In their words: From the nature of man, we may be sure that those who have power in their hands...will always, when they can...increase it." George Mason, 1787 "Give all power to the many, they will oppress the few. Give all power to the few, they will oppress the many." Alexander Hamilton, 1787
What is the proper use of legislative history in interpreting statutory law?
In interpreting statutes, a judge should begin and end the inquiry with the text of the statute. Legislative history should not be given any authoritative weight in interpreting a statute.
What specific text in the Declaration of Independence provides the critical basis for individual rights and the form of government guaranteed in the United States Constitution?
The Declaration of Independence embodies the essence of American democracy with the resounding words, “All men are created equal,” and the crucial acknowledgement “that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.” The Declaration of Independence speaks of “the Laws of Nature and of Nature’s God.”
In which partisan primary election did you most recently vote (e.g. Democratic, Republican, etc.)?

The U.S. Constitution and my state constitution should be interpreted as living documents, rather than use a strict constructionist or originalist philosophy.

Additional comment from candidate:
Since 2009, it has been my honor to serve Texans on the Supreme Court of Texas. I am asking Voters for the opportunity to continue to bring my proven conservative judicial philosphy, judicial experience, superior credentials and strong work ethic to the Texas Supreme Court. You can count on me to uphold the Constitution and not legislate from the bench. Finally, you can depend on me to continue to serve with an unwavering commitment to excellence, fairness, integrity and efficiency. With gratitude and warmest regards, Eva
