QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
To save the life of the mother.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers should NOT receive funds from the government.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
We need to eliminate the state income tax and continue our efforts to offer tax relief to Arizonans so that families can keep the money they earn.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I’m a longtime supporter of a Balanced Budget Amendment, and, as governor, I will never sign a state budget that is not balanced. We should always be looking for opportunities to cut government waste. Families balance their checkbooks every day, and there is no reason that government can’t do the same. I will take a thoughtful approach in crafting each state budget by assessing the economic situation in real-time, making long-term investments in Arizona’s future, and consulting with lawmakers about the short-term needs and concerns of their constituents.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
College should not be as expensive as it is today. Fully subsidizing every resident's tuition costs would exacerbate the underlying problems without addressing what is wrong. We need to reform Arizona's higher education system by cutting bureaucratic waste, aligning curricula with the needs of the new economy, and bringing a return-on-investment perspective to higher education.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
We need to stand up for religious freedom and the First Amendment. We can treat the LGBT community with dignity and respect and protect them from malicious forms of discrimination without government forcing small business owners to violate their religious beliefs.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
None. State and local politicians who closed down churches during COVID-19 should be ashamed of themselves. This was one of the most blatant constitutional violations by government that I have ever witnessed and it can never be allowed to happen again.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. However, the federal government needs to continue working to identify waste, fraud, and abuse in the Medicaid and Medicaid systems so that these tax dollars end up in the hands of American citizens where it is supposed to.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
It is never okay for a government, school, or employer to mandate a COVID-19 vaccine. I fought hard against these restrictions and mandates during the pandemic, and I will continue to fight against them as governor.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
We need to rebuild the U.S. military, give our troops all of the tools they need to achieve their mission, and untie their hands so that they can kill terrorists and protect our nation without bureaucratic hurdles getting in the way.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Strongly Disagree
BDS is an anti-Semitic movement run by far-left radicals, and I completely oppose it. We should take steps to ensure that U.S. tax dollars (local, state, and federal) are not invested in companies and organizations involved in BDS, which aims to undermine the national security of Israel, one of our strongest allies.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
The flow of illegal immigrants, fentanyl, and weapons into our country is dangerous. As governor, I will restart construction of the border wall (including on state land if needed), strengthen our trespass laws, declare the cartels a Foreign Terrorist Organization, and give law enforcement more tools to keep us safe.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
People should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. if they follow the rules to do so. We are the most generous and welcoming nation in history, and it is inexcusable for illegal immigrants to cut in line when so many people have chosen to follow the law. We also need to take steps to ensure that legal immigrants support freedom and American values.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
I have been an outspoken and proactive school choice advocate for decades. While serving as an Arizona state senator in the 1990s, I led the charge to create charter schools and spearhead an early version of Empowerment Scholarship Accounts (ESAs). I did the same in Congress. In 2021, I was the first candidate to push for the expansion of ESAs to families facing school mask mandates, an idea that Governor Ducey moved forward with. As governor, I promise to implement universal ESAs.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
In the words of President John Adams, “Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.”
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
As I answered elsewhere in this questionnaire, we can treat the LGBT community with dignity and respect and protect them from malicious forms of discrimination without government forcing small business owners to violate their religious beliefs. The bottom line is that we need to stand up for religious freedom and the First Amendment.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Strongly Agree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Critical Race Theory is state-sanctioned racism. I am against it, I have always been against it, and I always will be against it. As governor, I will not allow political activists to denigrate our founding fathers and peddle propaganda to children in our schools.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I believe that Jesus Christ is our Master and that He has given us all the opportunity to live again. I served the Church during a two-year mission to Taiwan as a young man, and I continue to serve as a Sunday School teacher. We have a duty to live up to our potential and make this world a better place each and every day.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
We need to require voter ID for every ballot cast, including mail-in ballots.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I released a 10-point plan called the Arizona Voter Bill of Rights that will strengthen the integrity of our elections by making it easier to vote and harder to cheat. The 10 points of my plan are --> (1) Permanently ban ballot harvesting as local and national Democrats are seeking to allow it. (2) Require voter identification for all ballots, including mail-in ballots. (3) Poll watchers must be afforded adequate access to monitor the process. (4) Expand live-streaming from tabulation to duplication, early ballot processing, signature curing and polling places, with safeguards to protect the secret ballot. (5) Prohibit last-minute gamesmanship and rules changes. All plans, policies, and procedures must be finalized at least 60 days before Election Day. (6) Every candidate should have standing to enforce every procedural rule in his or her election. (7) Wait times at polling places should not exceed one hour. The distribution of polling places should match the distribution of likely voters, so that no neighborhood is likely to experience unusually long or short wait times. (8) Counties must maintain documentation establishing a secure and unbroken chain of custody for every cast ballot and all electronic devices and storage media used in the election. (9) Anyone who wants a hand-count of the ballots can get it, if they are willing to pay the associated costs. (1) If an election official intentionally violates an election law, he or she must be permanently banned from administering elections in Arizona.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is a scourge on society and flies in the face of the American values of freedom and equality. We all strive to live in a world in which individuals are judged only by the content of their character.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
We can have a cleaner environment AND a booming economy. I fought hard against the Obama administration's burdensome, unnecessary regulations -- such as the WOTUS rule -- that would have harmed our farmers and ranchers. However, I am a strong believer in protecting our planet, in common-sense conservation, and in securing access to clear water, air, and other natural resources for generations to come.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Strongly Agree
I support hydraulic fracturing that is conducted in a safe manner and protects the private property rights of citizens. It is a smart way for the U.S. to regain energy independence and lower energy costs for families.
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The purpose of our Republic is to protect every man, woman, and child’s God-given rights and freedoms.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
I have spent my life advocating for individual freedom and conservative values. I am A-rated by the National Rifle Association (NRA) and 100 percent pro-life. In office, I consistently voted to cut spending and get government out of the way. That's why I have received the top awards from leading conservative organizations across the country, including the “Defender of Liberty” award from the American Conservative Union, the “Taxpayer Hero” award from Citizens Against Government Waste, the “Defender of Economic Freedom” award from the Club for Growth, the “True Blue” award from Family Research Council Action, the “Guardian of Small Business” award from the National Federation of Independent Business, and the “Taxpayers’ Friend” award from the National Taxpayers Union.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No, I have not.
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I am the only candidate in the gubernatorial race with a proven conservative record of getting results for the people of Arizona. I am incredibly proud of my lifelong advocacy on behalf of the conservative movement and invite you to learn more on my website or by asking me any questions you may have.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
I support qualified immunity, and I have pledged to crack down on local politicians that attempt to take away quality immunity or to defund the police.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
I oppose the Defund the Police movement. Our police departments already are under-funded and under-staffed. We can invest in mental health and community programs that make our neighborhoods safer WITHOUT taking money away from law enforcement - which would result in the complete opposite.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I am a passionate gun owner and a strong supporter of the Second Amendment, which protects our right to keep and bear arms. I am a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA) and am A-rated by the NRA for consistently voting in support of our constitutional gun rights. I fought against the Obama administration’s gun control agenda and, as governor, will continue to fight against red flag laws, ‘gun-free zones,’ and other infringements on the Second Amendment.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
