What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

Mankind has a natural tendency to act in ones own self-interest, driven by self-preservation. Engaging in voluntary trade (or commerce) is one of the most peaceful forms of this tendency. On the other hand, when it comes to positions of authority, self-interest can lead to intentional and unintentional abuse of power. To prevent such abuse at the federal level, the three branches of government are subject to checks and balances.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Abortion - a deeply private matter - must remain legal and safe for all women leading up to fetal viability. I support restrictions on abortion after viability; exceptions include cases of rape and incest, and where the life of the mother is at risk.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I do not consider myself spiritual but, rather, philosophical. I generally value self-ownership, non-aggression, compassion and justice.
