QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
When the mortality of the mother or child is in jeopardy.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Agree
Except in the instances of rape or human trafficking, then having a child is a choice. There are preventative measures that can be taken to avoid having a child, such as contraception. Therefore, abortion providers are not an essential healthcare service, and should not receive taxpayer funding as if they are.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Neutral
I would need to see the specific law that comes before the Florida Legislature. Any legislation that I would consider on this issue must ensure there are proper guardrails in place to protect everyone involved in that decision.
ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
I believe that the most meaningful change to the tax code would be to allow for individuals to pay health insurance premiums with pre-tax dollars just like businesses can do to give more people access to health care.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
In Florida we are constitutionally required to balance the budget every year. To do that we assess the needs of all our agencies each year and make necessary decisions to balance the budget.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Disagree
I believe that education is essential to the advancement of individuals and of society in general. Having said that, post-secondary education is not essential to living a successful, fulfilling life. There are many other opportunities, such as trade or vocational schools, that can provide similar, if not better opportunities for certain people than attending a 4-year university.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
In a market based economy, the fundamental element is the freedom of choice. Customers can choose which businesses to work with based on a variety of factors: price, quality, etc. The better, more efficient way to handle this situation is to let businesses operate freely, without government interference, and let the customers decide where to shop. If a business's moral or religious beliefs lead to a slump in revenue, it should be up to the business to make adjustments to stay afloat.
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
Only in circumstances where all other places of large, public gatherings or other businesses are closed as well (grocery stores, public buildings, etc.). I actually ran a bill this past session, that was recently signed into law, codifying this very idea.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
I believe for healthcare coverage C is the view that most closely aligns with me with adjustments to be made for eligibility. I don't believe able bodied, childless adults should be eligible for government assistance in healthcare.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Governments should never be allowed to require vaccinations. There must be some relevant, peer reviewed data that shows the effectiveness of the vaccine, or other measures implemented to combat a disease, if places like schools or businesses are allowed to require them. If schools or businesses are allowed to require these vaccinations, they should also be required to offer various exemptions for religious, medical, or other pertinent reasons.
NATIONAL SECURITY
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of Islamic terrorism?
The United States should ensure that Islamic terrorism does not threaten anyone or anything within the United States. It should not be spending billions of dollars and sending our service members to foreign countries to fight other people's/nation's battles with these terrorists, without a formal declaration of war from Congress.
I support the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement to pressure Israel to withdraw from occupied territories, remove the separation barrier in the West Bank, allow full equality for Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel, and promote the rights of Palestinian refugees.
Disagree
I will always defend Israel.
IMMIGRATION
The U.S. should do more to physically secure the southern border.
Strongly Agree
The US should do everything it can to ensure that we have secure borders everywhere, especially at the southern border. Secured borders are essential to national sovereignty.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Everyone should be allowed to immigrate to the US, so long as they immigrate legally and work through the proper processes we have in place.
EDUCATION
I support school choice, including voucher programs, tax credits, charter schools, private schools, and home schools.
Strongly Agree
School choice is becoming a better option for parents who are unsatisfied with the education the students are receiving at their public school. The goal of education is for the student to learn the knowledge and skills they need to operate successfully in society. I believe whatever the best way they achieve that is the way we should allow our parents and students to go. As with anything in a market-based system, more competition brings higher quality products/services at lower prices.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
If we are labeling what kinds of discrimination are wrong, we are inadvertently saying the forms of discrimination not listed are ok. Discrimination for any reason outside of capability is wrong, specifically labeling makes other forms ok.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition
Neutral
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
My faith is most closely aligned to Reformed Presbyterian. I am a traditional conservative, I believe in individual freedom and fiscal responsibility.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
It is illegal to vote in the US if you are under the age of 18. It is also illegal to vote on behalf of someone else. Verifying those two pieces of information can be done with checking a photo ID and should be done before anyone is able to cast their vote.
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
I propose we continue the path we have been on in recent years in Florida. We continue to strengthen our voting laws to eliminate voter fraud and ensure that everyone has the ability to vote.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Anything can be a threat to domestic security, if that thing inherently brings about violence or is threatening. I don't believe that there is a nationwide threat to domestic security caused by racism. There are some extremist groups that practice violence and are racist, but those groups should be treated as outliers, as they account for a very small portion of the US population.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
Strongly Disagree
No one alive today has been a part of institutionalized government sanctioned bondage that would warrant any kind of reparations. People today are not responsible for the actions of their ancestors and should not have to pay for something they did not do, want, or ask for.
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
Like I'm sure most people are, I am somewhere in the middle. I believe that we are responsible for protecting the environment around us to ensure that future generations are able to enjoy its beauty and it's resources, but at the same time, we cannot be so narrowly focused on the environment that we neglect to enact sound economic policy to ensure that we have all the other things properly functioning in our society.
I support the use of hydraulic fracking to extract oil and natural gas resources.
Disagree
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The general purpose of government is to protect each citizen’s life, liberty, and property.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
I am a traditional, fiscal conservative that slightly leans libertarian at times.
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
See the Florida Channel, https://thefloridachannel.org/, from 2010-2018 and 2020-2022.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
I am a proven leader who has been delivering results for Florida's vulnerable populations during my time in the Florida Legislature and I am looking forward to continuing that good work!
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Agree
Police Officers should have qualified immunity while on duty. However, this should not be linked to department policy, the immunity should exist regardless.
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
I agree that more focus and attention need to be paid to mental health and community programs but taking funding away from police departments is not the way to accomplish the goal of protecting our society and promoting the general welfare of the people.
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The current restrictions are sufficient (and some could argue too burdensome). The problem with gun violence is the person holding the gun, not the gun itself.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
This would be like saying the victims of car accidents or deaths caused by someone's use of a car can sue car manufacturers.
