OTHER INFORMATION
Voted Yes for House Roll Call Vote 1337 pro-life 2016 which was the final concurrence vote in the Indiana House on a pro-life bill from this session that banned abortion because of race, gender or disability and also mandated that abortion clinics must dispose of aborted babies through a relationship with a funeral home via either burial or cremation. Currently they are allowed to treat aborted baby bodies as "medical waste". Voted No for House Roll Call Vote HJR 3 to remove 2nd sentence of the Marriage Amendment 2014 which defined marriage as between one man and one woman. HJR 3 stripped the Marriage Amendment of its second sentence, which essentially killed the constitutional process. Voted No for SB 20 sexual orientation 2016 which is an amendment to a bill in the Indiana House that would have added special protections for "sexual orientation" and "gender identity" into state law.
QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
None
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
The only provision in our constitution is that the government will not establish a state sponsored religion. This issue was tested with school choice in awarding vouchers to students attending religious based schools. The court found that this was acceptable since the government was not prescribing that the student attend a particular religious school, but rather the student did so by their choice.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
The ACA eliminated single family policies which is a real problem for small business owners. Preexisting conditions are a problem that the ACA did deal with. I believe that the ultimate solution will only be found when all parties can come together to develop a plan that can be customized based on the need where everybody has their own policy, eliminating the preexisting condition issue, that is maintained even during periods of unemployment. Government should not be in the insurance business, but rather establish the legal framework.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
In the sixteen years I have served on either the town council or state legislature, we have had an honestly balanced budget. This includes 2008 when we had the last recession and I was council president. Keeping the town in the black set us up for a strong recovery.
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
All who are willing to follow our laws.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Strongly Agree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
No Answer
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
We have plenty of laws already and more laws are not the answer. We would be much better off focusing on mental illness and how we deal with that better than we are doing now. The criminal justice system is not the place for treating mental illness.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
Pediatric Care The number one priority affecting many Northwest Indiana families with sick children. We have great pediatric care in Chicago, but with half of our children on Medicaid, they don’t have access due to a disparity in reimbursement for Medicaid patients when crossing state lines, forcing those children and families to travel to Indianapolis for care. A solution exists that could save money, and encourage those hospitals to invest in offering local service. I’ve championed this issue since my first year in the legislature, and there’s finally a committee looking into this. I can bring the stakeholders together to get it done. Financially Distressed Government Units Two years ago we created a dashboard to help identify struggling school corporations, however, there are concerns with more than just school corporations. Bankruptcy is not allowed and clearly we waited too long to take action with the Gary School Corporation. We need a process that would apply to all uni
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I have 6 years of voting record in the Indiana State Legislature defending our rights and freedoms as outlined in the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Indiana.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
CPA, multiple business owner, former town council member, father, husband and long time member of the community.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I have been in business since 1983. My current business affords me the opportunity to serve in this part time position. I wish to return to the legislature in order to finish important work that I started. Work that will have a positive impact on all Hoosiers and their quality of life.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. The family structure is the best way to raise good citizens. Government should be of laws rather than of Men or Women. That the free market in a free society has done more to raise the standard condition of humans than any other form of government.
