15. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?

"Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely" - Lord Acton. A previous question stated that "the founders established pure democracy in the Constitution", which is false. The word "democracy" is not found anywhere in the Constitution. A Constitutional Republic was formed to allow for a representative government that protects the rights of minorities. True democracy is tyranny of the majority; for example, three wolves and a chicken voting on what's for dinner.

16. Briefly list three (3) political or legislative issues of most concern to you, and explain why each is important to you.

1. The unrestrained growth of government is a major concern. A $17 trillion debt and $500 billion deficit are unsustainable, hurt the economy and are a burden on every citizen and their offspring. Restricting the federal government to constitutionally limited powers can trim this largess. 2. Too many laws and regulations have hamstrung the creative energy of entrepreneurs who create the great majority of businesses and jobs. Ending restraints on the private sector will stimulate the economy. 3. Electoral reform to create an equal playing field for all independent and other party candidates is the best way to change the status quo. Easing ballot access, adopting approval voting and limiting campaigns to six weeks can all help address the corrupting influence of the corporate/financial/industrial complex. Wresting control from the plutocratic 1% is critical to restore the citizen-oriented governance of a Constitutional Republic that was built on protecting the rights of the individual

17. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?

While it is the least preferable option in dealing with an unwanted pregnancy, the practice of abortion predates recorded history and will not be ended by legislation. When it was illegal, many women were butchered by unqualified practitioners at unlicensed facilities or died trying to do it on their own. There is nothing in the Constitution giving the federal government control over what an individual may do with their own body, including personal medical decisions. The Tenth Amendment specifically leaves this to the States or the people. Although it can be claimed that "life begins at conception", the courts have justifiably ruled that until a fetus is capable of living on its own it has no legal rights. This is consistent with millennia of human experience throughout the world. Government has no role unless the legal definition of life is changed. Until then, any medical decision should be made by the individual in consultation with their caregiver, family and religious belie

18. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.

God, Voters, Constitution, Congress, Supreme Court

19. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised as a Methodist and sang in the church choir for many years. After investigating many other religions I consider myself a Naturalist who believes in Mother Nature, Father Time, and a benign creator of the universe whose complex nature is elusive but common to most major religions. They also share the core value or "golden rule" to love they neighbor and do unto others as you would have them do unto you. Respect the environment from which we have all sprung, and try to leave the world a better place than you found it.
