18. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?
Mankind's natural desire for power and susceptibility to corruption caused the Founders to de-centralize and separate powers within the Constitution. Powers were explicitly defined and limited because the Founders, based on their wisdom and direct experience, knew that each branch of government would have a tendency to exert as much power as it could get away with.
19. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
God, Constitution, Congress, Supreme Court. The powers of government are derived from the consent of the governed. So, voters are under the authority of government, government is accountable to voters, and all are accountable to God.
20. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?
My belief is essentially that abortion should not be allowed unless the mother's life is threatened by her pregnancy. In such cases, every reasonable effort should be made to save the lives of both the mother and the baby, if possible; but this should not be construed in a way that would prevent medical professionals from doing what in their judgment is best for the mother's chances in cases where it is unlikely that both will survive.
21. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe God created the universe, our world, and mankind. I believe that though creation was good, it was corrupted when sin entered the world. I believe all people are sinners, and that God sent Jesus to redeem and restore his creation by his sacrificial death on the cross. I believe He rose from the dead, and that we can be forgiven of our sins by placing our faith in Him. I have done this. I believe in religious freedom for those of any faith and for those of no faith. I believe religious freedom can only exist when each individual is free from coercion in matters of conscience, and is free to exercise his/her faith in public as well as in private. I believe that if a society has honest officials, a robust court system, respect for private property, and a moral populace, then it can thrive with limited government and relatively few and simple laws and regulations.
