Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
The most important thing is to decrease the number of abortions (legal or illegal). To help women avoid unwanted pregnancies, we need to provide over the counter access to birth control (no prescription required) and better education for young people before they become sexually active so that they make better decisions. Any legal restrictions on the right of women to decide for themselves whether to carry a pregnancy to term should be subject to a vote of the people.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

ECONOMY
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
As governor I will listen to taxpayers and businesses and take their input into account in revising the tax code. We should work to reduce and simplify taxes, especially for South Carolina's small businesses, which provide most of our jobs.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
As governor, I would take a zero-based approach to budgeting. All spending should be reassessed. Budgeting should be open and transparent.

As a pastor, I believe that God loves every human being equally. It is up to each individual church and/or denomination to interpret scripture to determine how they will approach marriage. In my personal view, marriage is between one man and one woman. However, it is not the job of government to impose one theological viewpoint on all of society.

I am a Protestant Christian and disciple of Jesus Christ. Behind this physical universe there is a God. Not only is he powerful, he is magnificently creative. All the wonders of the world first existed in the imagination of God. The central message of the Bible is the love of God for every human being.

We should look for ways to maximize citizen involvement in the process. South Carolina should join the other 44 states that have abolished straight-ticket voting.

Racism is incompatible with the notion that "all men are created equal" enshrined in our Declaration of Independence, as well as the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments to the US Constitution.

Throughout life, I have always worked to serve the community. As Governor, I will involve our citizens and communities in decision-making, so that government serves them, rather than special interests.
