15. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?
The Founding Fathers were very weary of government. They recognized it as a necessary evil and their intention in devising the Constitution as they did was to ensure that the 'state' never became too powerful. From checks and balances to limiting the powers of government in areas like taxation, our founding was one meant to ensure maximum liberty with minimum government.
16. Briefly list three (3) political or legislative issues of most concern to you, and explain why each is important to you.
#1. Restoring the Constitution: Our government has outstepped the bounds of the Constitution with laws like the Patriot Act, NDAA, RICO and many others. My main intention of running for office is to repeal these unconstitutional laws and restore the bill of rights to its former integrity. #2. Balancing the Budget: We need to stop the overspending of the federal government and conform to a balanced budget initiative. We need to reign in the spending of the federal government by reducing wasteful military spending, ending the drug war, cutting regulatory agencies, and limiting the size and scope of the federal government. #3. Agriculture: Federal government subsidies rarely go to the small farmer and encourage wasteful farming practices by our farming corporations. Kansas is a dry climate. Corn and soy are not meant to grow here. We need to legalize hemp production and go back to crops meant for our climate.
17. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?
While abortion is a morally repugnant act, the federal government should not have the power to regulate the reproductive rights of women. This power outsteps the bounds granted by the constitution and sets a precedent that neither side of the issue is likely to accept should the federal government decide to exercise said power. Regardless of what side you are on, what happens if the other side wins? Are you willing to live with the consequences of allowing the federal government to control this aspect of women's rights? Are you willing to allow congressmen and senators from New York or California dictate things of this nature? While I may find abortion to be a poor moral decision, I am not comfortable giving the federal government power over such a personal matter.
18. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
Constitution Voters Supreme Court Congress
19. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I structure my beliefs around many values from many different cultures and spiritual practices. Ultimately, I believe in the universal power of love and the right of all living things to coexist peacefully. The teachings of Jesus Christ in regards to loving, forgiving and accepting thy neighbor are key to my way of approaching life. As a result, the non-aggression principal is one of my key tenants. I do not believe in aggressing towards another human being or group of people if aggression has not first been directed upon my person. I am a strong believer in personal liberty and believe that any individual has the right to live their lives and do with themselves as they see fit, so long as they do not harm another. No person, group or state has the right to transgress upon an individuals personal liberty so long as they do not harm another. Any transgression is illegitimate and should be regarded with the utmost seriousness.
