Probably the knowledge that man is not perfect, and therefore there cannot be a perfect government. As someone once said, if men were angels, government would not be necessary. The Framers did their best to mitigate that by creating a system of government, carefully designed, that sought to balance and limit by separation into branches. Unfortunately, most of us can agree that those balances and limitations no longer restrain the powers of the government to the degree it once did.

I am a Christian. I do my best to serve my Lord and his church. These things influence my values: I try and treat others the way I would want to be treated; I value voluntary relationships and refrain from using force in those relationships. I believe kindness and love should inform our decisions and relationships with others, as commanded by Jesus. I do my best to teach my children these things.
