Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Abortion should only be allowed if the mother’s life is at risk.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

For years while the threat of radical Islamic terrorism spread throughout the region, the Obama Administration never called it by its true name. I am proud that we now have a President who is taking the necessary steps to stop radical Islamic terrorism from growing, which includes extreme vetting for those who wish to enter our country. We must prohibit people who intend to spread anti-American sentiments and endanger our citizens from coming into the U.S.

What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?

Our Founding Fathers, having just fled from Europe, understood that a democracy made up of checks and balances was the way of the future. They therefore created a system to hold people accountable of their actions.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a faithful Catholic who attends church weekly and ushers at mass.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Last year, more than 183,000 Ohio families had to pay a fine to the government because they could not afford insurance. And of those, more than nearly 85% were families earning less than $50,000 per year. I wish we had replaced Obamacare with something better. But we didn’t have the votes to change the whole law. However, I am proud that as part of the tax cut, we eliminated the Obamacare mandate tax. And that’s an issue that my opponent and I disagree on. I will only support a replacement if it’s good for Ohio and covers our uninsured. The bill I supported would have given Ohio a lot more flexibility to spend our healthcare dollars in a way that makes sense for us, not for Washington, D.C.

What role should government play in boosting the economy?

Advancing a pro-growth, common sense conservative agenda to foster further economic growth and boost manufacturing will be a top priority of mine.

What changes should be made to the tax code?

It’s important that we streamline the filing process to make tax season easier for all Americans, which is why I introduced several bills which passed the House earlier this year that would make that possible. H.R. 5377 - Creating an online platform for instant 1099 submissions - would create an online portal for businesses to electronically submit Form 1099s. The “Creating an Online Platform for Instant 1099 Submissions Act,” was designed with two goals in mind: make it easier for businesses to file 1099 forms and getting tax administrators the data they need in real time. This spring, I introduced legislation, which passed out of the House, to limit re-disclosures and unauthorized uses of tax return information. The bill is known as the “Protecting Taxpayer Confidentiality through Safeguards Act,” or H.R. 5376. Also, my legislation establishing a single point of contact at the IRS, H.R. 5439, passed out of the House this year as well.

What is the best way to bring down unemployment?

We’ve come a long way in the past few years. One reason things are going much better is the tax cut we passed. This year, most Ohioans will get a tax cut of nearly $2,000. And Ohio businesses are hiring and expanding. Businesses like Smuckers in Orrville, Fifth Third Bank in Cincinnati, Nationwide in Columbus, and Tri-State Trailer Sales have all given bonuses or increased pay specifically because of this tax cut. I’m working hard with the President to make these tax cuts permanent.

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

First, we need to keep our promises to those receiving benefits and those who are close to retirement. I will not support any changes to benefits for anyone who is 55 or older. Second, we can’t keep kicking the can down the road. We need to act now, because it will not get any easier the longer we wait. Finally, we need to put all options on the table. I am open to proposals that means test Social Security, so we don’t treat millionaires the same way we treat working Seniors. I am willing to support tough choices – but only if we keep our promises to seniors today.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

My breadth of experience in both public service and the private sector, in which I created over 1,500 jobs and employed over 3,000 people across Ohio, has rendered me uniquely qualified to effectively serve our state in the United States Senate and to advance the values of hardworking Ohioans—not Washington special interests and career politicians.
