Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
My position is that all human life is a sacred gift from God, and it should be respected from conception to natural death. I have a pro-life legislative record both in Congress and at the statehouse, and I am a proponent of our movement using positive, pro-life messages to strengthen the respect for human life in our culture. In order to protect innocent human life to the fullest extent possible, I believe that procedure should only be used to prevent the death of the mother. I would support legislation to achieve that goal, as well as legislation that would move our state and nation toward that goal.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
The threat of radical Islamic terrorism is as real as it gets. It must be fought both here and abroad. The best way to confront this threat around the world is by America being the economic, military and diplomatic leader of the free world. I support President Trump’s efforts to restore American leadership role in the world, as well as his efforts to confront, rather than appease, these terrorist forces. At home, it is important that we prioritize the security of our homeland. That starts with a secure border and more effective visa enforcement to reduce illegal immigration. It includes robust intelligence gathering on terror suspects to prevent terrorist acts when possible. It also includes respecting local law enforcement and supporting their efforts in these areas as well. I think President Trump has markedly improved the nation’s efforts in all of these areas.
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
The founders in their wisdom referred in the Declaration of Independence to the fact that we are all created equal, and that we are endowed by God with certain unalienable rights. The idea that our rights are God-given and not granted by government guided the framing of the Constitution as well. It helped lead the founders to limit the power of the federal government and its role in our lives by preventing the consolidation of power into the hands of one individual, or one branch of government.

Very Conservative

My conservative record as both a state and federal legislator supports the answer.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
Obamacare is an unsustainable system must be repealed and replaced with a more affordable plan that provides better coverage and more accessibility for all. The promises made about Obamacare have turned out to be false. It did little to reduce the cost of insurance or health care. In fact, it continues to drive up costs and reduce options for many Ohioans. There are a number of workable replacement plans that have been proposed - many of them market-based solutions that provide more options for better coverage at a lower cost. But none of them will get enacted until those who campaign on changing Obamacare actually follow through with that promise when it comes time to vote.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
The main role of the federal government in boosting the economy is protecting interstate commerce and creating a climate that is conducive for economic growth. In basic terms, this means low taxes, a reasonable regulatory environment, and protections for a free and fair marketplace. The tax reform signed by President Trump has done a great deal to increase consumer confidence and unleash the private sector investment that will lead to job creation and economic growth. The rollback of President Obama's regulatory agenda has helped as well, giving farmers and other job creators the confidence they need to reinvest in their business and help our economy grow.
What changes should be made to the tax code?
Though the tax reform signed by President Trump did a great deal to boost economic growth in our country, the tax code remains very complicated. Simplifying the tax code further will do even more good. I am supportive of moving to a simple, flat tax. I would also support a system with two rates.
