OTHER INFORMATION
QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
None. Human life begins at conception. We must legally protect the unborn child at all stages: conception, birth until natural death.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Ohio's Government Bureaucracies should have their budgets cut before any other spending is reduced.
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
No Answer
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
The First Amendment states "Congress shall make no law respecting the establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise therof". Citizens have a constitutional right to practice their beliefs. I disagree with the Supreme Court's decisions against prayer in school or public displays of religious monuments. I also disagree with the Supreme Court's decision allowing a local or state government to close places of worship during the COVID pandemic. I believe our religious freedoms are being denied.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
OBAMACARE has shown us that government run healthcare does not lower costs. I believe free mark systems do. I support a free market system that allows insurance companies to compete across state lines. This will help lower costs. When people can choose their own insurance they will choose a plan that fits their needs.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
All immigrants must enter the country legally. They must be vetted and show they will be a productive member of our society.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe God is our creator and deserves our love. There are many ways to honor and love our Lord. Organized religion is a great way to honor God and live His Commandments. I am a Catholic and I practice my religion. I attend mass and communion daily. My values are rooted in the Ten Commandments which are my guiding principles and values for life.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
When I was in Congress I was rated the sixth most conservative member (out of 435). In 2011, I was called the Defender of Liberty by the American Conservative Union and a Taxpayer Hero by the Council for Citizens Against Government Waste. In 2012, Americans For Prosperity graded me A+ and the Family Research Council rated me with a 100% voting record. I have been supported by numerous pro life organizations including Ohio and Greater Cincinnati Right to Life, the NRA, Buckeye Firearms Association, and Value Voters.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have a Bachelor Degree from the University of Cincinnati. I understand how government functions at all levels. I have held public office, serving as a Miami Township Trustee, a State Representative and a member of the US Congress. Currently I have been teaching Government and the Constitution at Chatfield College. This experience uniquely qualifies me for the challenges we face today in Ohio.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am a life long resident of Clermont County. I grew up on a farm. My parents instilled in me that God must come first, family second, our country third. I have been married for 44 years to Peter Schmidt. We have a daughter that has blessed us with two wonderful grandchildren. I love our country and our state. I have dedicate my life, through community and public service to make Ohio a great place to live, work and raise a family. I am running for the Ohio legislature because in these trying times I know experience matters. I have the experience and the passion to work to keep Ohio's economy strong so Ohioans can continue to live in a great state.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Neutral
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
None. The Second Amendment gives law abiding citizens the right to own guns. Period.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Strongly Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Defunding Planned Parenthood. 2. Ensuring women have appropriate access to mammogram screenings. 3. Restoring the Local Government Funds.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism must never be tolerated. Violent protests must not be tolerated as well.
