I strongly believe that life should be protected at every stage until natural death.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
First of all, we need to recognize the nature of the threat we face. For eight years, President Obama refused to use the term "radical Islamic terrorism" instead labeling the threat "extremism." The problem with President Obama's approach is that you cannot defeat an enemy if you refuse to identify who they are. President Trump, to his credit, has made defeating ISIS a priority, and he has had considerable success. Unfortunately, members of ISIS, like al-Qaeda and the Taliban before them, are fleeing the battlefield and joining up with like-minded groups around the globe. And so we must remain vigilant and continue to root out and defeat radical Islamic terrorist groups wherever they may settle.
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
As Hamilton and Madison explained in the Federalist Papers, the Founders wanted to make certain that popular opinion was not used to silence those with less popular opinions, particularly since popular opinions tend to change (sometimes dramatically) over time. They had the experience of having a king who made all decisions. And so they divided power amongst the three branches, thereby making it is less likely that power could be consolidated in one person, and used to silence opposition.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Catholic, born, raised and educated. My faith plays an important role in everything I do, every day of my life. I rely on my faith to give me the strength and wisdom to do the right thing for the people I represent. My faith keeps me humble, but also pushes me to strive to be more compassionate, more empathetic and more understanding of the plight of others.

I was ranked the most conservative member of the House by National Journal a few years ago, and I have one of the highest lifetime scores with Citizens Against Government Waste.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I have long championed legislation to allow individuals to deduct the cost of health insurance from their taxes, which would help people to purchase the health care plan they want, rather than settling for one they can afford. I also support efforts to create association health plans, and to allow health insurance companies to sell products across state lines. And I think we need to enact medical malpractice reform to help rein in skyrocketing costs. Also, I voted to repeal Obamcare numerous times in the House.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
As Chairman of the House Small Business Committee, I believe the government should get out of the way of our nation's entrepreurs and small business owners so they can grow their businesses and create jobs. That means, lowering taxes and reducing the regulatory burden on job creators, both of which we have been able to achieve to a significant degree since President Trump took office.
What changes should be made to the tax code?
I supported the tax reform legislation that we passed, and President Trump signed into law, in December. I think this legislation will be tremendously beneficial to the economy and to the lives of the vast majority of the American families. That said, I think we should go further and completely repeal the current tax code, and replace it with a fairer, simpler, flatter tax system.
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
Pursuing policies that allow the private sector to grow, expand and create jobs (like lower taxes and less regulations) are the most important steps we can take to reduce unemployment.
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
The first thing we need to do is pass the Social Security Preservation Act which will make sure that money paid into the Social Security system is spent on Social Security, and only Social Security. Next, we should give younger workers the option to invest a portion of their Social Security money into an account that provides a higher return than the traditional Social Security system. Doing so will enable us to both guarantee current retirees their full benefits, while also making sure that the system is still sound for future generations.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have represented the people of the First District for nearly 22 years. Before that, I represented many of the same constituents on Cincinnati City Council and the Hamilton County Commission for five years each.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
As one of the most senior members of the House Judiciary Committee, I plan to pursue the chairmanship of the Committee, now that current Chairman Bob Goodlatte is retiring. If successful, I will oversee the Committee that has jurisdiction over most abortion-related legislation. In that role, I will have the ability to promote pro-life legislation, just as I did when I was Chairman of the Constitution Subcommittee and I introduced the federal ban on partial-birth abortion which President Bush signed into law. My opponent, on the other hand, might be the most pro-abortion candidate to ever run to represent the First District. He has been called an "abortion advocate" by the Cincinnati Enquirer, and he routinely praises Planned Parenthood on social media and has shockingly called that organization's outgoing president, Cecile Richards, his personal hero.
