The Founders drafted the Constitution to de-centralize power from any individual or single branch of government. The Founders knew that power corrupts and absolute (or in this case centralized) power corrupts absolutely. A primary goal of the Constitution is to dilute centralized power through separation of powers between the branches of the federal government and federalism between the federal government and the various states.
16. Briefly list three (3) political or legislative issues of most concern to you, and explain why each is important to you.
(1) End the war on drugs. Ending the drug war will decrease border violence, allow law enforcement to focus on violent crimes, especially those where children are victimized, drastically reduce the incarceration rate in the United States, keep individuals from being saddled, for life, with a criminal record for merely possessing or using marijuana and allow those who suffer to avail themselves of medical marijuana without government interference. (2) End undeclared and thus unconstitutional overseas wars. The Department of Defense should be limited to ONLY defense. It is time to stop using our military to police the world. (3) Simplify the federal tax code. While, ultimately, we should work to abolish any income-based, deduction-dependent system of taxation we should immediately take intermediate steps to drastically simplify the federal tax code. People should be able to do their own taxes.
