Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe that every life is fearfully and wonderfully made in the image of God. Abortion should be illegal in every instance.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
Today, radical Islamic terror stands as the greatest threat to freedom and democracy. We must first be concerned for the safety and security of the American people by securing our porous borders and implementing extreme vetting on immigrants from countries that U.S. intelligence deems a hotbed of terrorist activity. Next, we have to continue to fund and support our military. I support President Reagan’s, “peace through strength” approach to maintain our status as the most powerful and skilled military in the world. Additionally, we must weaken the financial backing of terrorist organizations by standing up to nations like Iran who fund terrorist activity. Finally, we also must continue to support our allies in the Middle East, especially Israel.
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
In crafting the Constitution, the founders recognized what James Madison called the ambition of man or the proclivity to power in every man. As a result, Madison and the founders created a Constitution which clearly defines powers and counter-weighted those power between the federal government and states as well as the branches of government.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
At an early age my parents showed me what it means to walk with Jesus. I am a Christian, I believe that the God of the universe sent his son to die on a cross to take away the sins of the world and that through his sacrifice I now have access to eternal life with God. As a person who has been saved by grace I strive to live like Jesus and give grace to others. It has lead me to active roles in my faith communities, countless hours of charity and service, and has guided my decisions as a public policy maker. Specifically, my faith influences how I think about issues of family values, marriage, life, and religious freedom.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
Voting Record in the South Dakota Legislature. Including the following bills I sponsored or co-sponsored HB 1162 prohibit the practice of sex-selective abortions, to establish certain procedures to better ensure that sex-selective abortions are not practiced in South Dakota, and to provide penalties therefor. SB 66 provide immunity to clergy, lay officials, and religious organizations that decline to provide certain marriage services. SB 67 provide protection to certain businesses or persons that decline to provide certain wedding services or goods due to the free exercise of religion SB 129 supplant the Common Core Standards HCR 1004 Supporting and encouraging the academic study of the Bible in South Dakota public schools. HB 1193 require abortion facilities to offer sonograms to pregnant women under certain circumstances. HB 1166 establish certain legislative findings pertaining to the health and rights of women, to revise the physician disclosure requirements to be made to a wom
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I support free market solutions that return choice and freedom to consumers. Practical solutions like allowing consumers to purchase plans across state lines give power back to individuals to choose what is right for themselves and for their families. The free market will also infuse competition back into the healthcare marketplace driving down costs.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
The best thing government can do for our economy is to get out of the way and let free enterprise work. Government should be working to reduce the burden of regulation, not creating more of it. Pro-business tax-reform was an important first step, but more can be done to streamline the tax-code and reduce burdens.
What changes should be made to the tax code?
I support the reforms passed by Congress to make American businesses competitive in the global market. I believe Congress can enact further reform in simplifying the tax code and getting rid of loopholes that encourage unfair advantages.
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
The best way to bring down unemployment is by reducing the burdens on business and encouraging economic growth. Businesses create jobs, not government. We need to get government out of the way so job-creators can expand and grow.
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
As it stands today, our current system of social security will become insolvent in 2034. Reform is direly needed to prevent the total collapse of social security. The answer to fixing social security is not to raise taxes and perpetuate a failing system. We must empower individuals to take charge of their own retirement by supporting tax-free savings mechanisms leaving fewer Americans dependent on government. Additionally, Americans are living longer and are healthier than they have ever been. We need to explore options to gradually increase the retirement age.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
This race comes down to experience and results. In a state where agriculture is the number one industry, I am the only one with a background in Agriculture. I grew up on a fourth-generation farm and trucking operation and was the first female chair of the Senate Agriculture Committee in South Dakota. Before entering the private sector, I owned my own retail businesses. I am the only one in this race that knows what it means to sign both sides of a paycheck. Finally, I am the only one in this race who has taken on a failing government bureaucracy and turned it around in the Secretary of State’s office. When I walked into that office business filings were 6 weeks behind, bank liens 80 days behind, and paperwork was stacked knee high. Since then we have implemented business principles to increase revenues, cut budgets, and run at the speed of business, not the speed of government.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I live my life by a simple lesson my parents taught me when I was young. I remember my mom said, "Young lady you're going to wake up and you're going to work hard. You're going to mind your own business. You're going to go to bed and say your prayers. Then you are going to wake up and do it all over again the next day."
