The tendency of mankind to try to dominate other members of mankind which need to be tempered by a government of checks and balances. The Founders (if by that you mean those originally were involved in the drafting of the Constitution) did not think highly of mankind. Note, since "The Founders" all passed away, the Constitution has been amended 15 times. Talk of "America's Founders" is often code for those who still think the South won the Civil War.

17. The founders established pure democracy in the Constitution because they believed that it is the best form of government to ensure the safety and equitable treatment of all citizens.
