QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Abortions should not just be illegal, but should be unthinkable! However, being a realist, I recognize that this thought process won't happen in the near future. Abortion is just too ingrained in our society. As a stop gap, until abortion does become unthinkable, I believe in and would support the "heartbeat" law; where if the fetus has a heartbeat it IS alive and should have protections in place to preserve that life. Again - since making abortion unthinkable and illegal is not going to happen anytime soon, I would rather save as many lives as possible NOW then wait and wait until abortion becomes unthinkable. It's NOT the best solution to the abortion issue, but until that perfect solution comes about, I'll try to save as many lives as possible.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
There are a lot of areas where the budget could be slimmed down to balance the budget. If I recall, there was a $1.2 billion surplus at the end of 2017. I think there is a $2.5 billion deficit right now. The best indicator of an area to reduce spending is the number of lobbyists and the money the spend to KEEP that area open and spending. Follow the money coming in to keep the status quo and the politicians who accept it and THERE you'll find the areas that could use good spending reduction
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Neutral
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
That our government is NOT ruled by one specific religion as many nations were in Europe when our founders came to this country. All legitimate religion get to exist in this nation, and worship as their religion requires AS LONG AS it doesn't not violate U.S. law and doesn't not violate the rights and protections of any other people. (i.e. NO human sacrifice, No abuse of children, etc)
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
ABSOLUTELY! Healthcare should be adequate, affordable and accessible for all. That is how it should be but it isn't. The focus on excessive profits by "Big Pharma" over the concerns of the people is a large part of the problem. Affordable, accessible healthcare should be the goal of all elected representatives, but instead there are a lot of 'politicians' who have personal concerns they put over the needs of the people.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Anyone should be allowed to try to immigrate to the U.S. as long as their immigration into the U.S. is beneficial to the U.S. and it's people. The immigrants have to be an asset to the U.S., they should be productive members of society, they should fulfill their duty and responsibility to the U.S. as best as possible. They should be able to assimilate into the American culture and accept it. They can still respect their heritage, but if they are coming to the U.S. to live here, they need to accept American society - not to change it into the place they left. The U.S. used to be a 'melting pot' of cultures, but today, it's now "groups" of individuals who want special status for their culture and beliefs, rather than everyone coming together as ONE nation and ONE people. The lack of American cohesion the cause of a lot of stiff in this great nation of ours.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Neutral
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I was raise in a family where my mother stayed home to take care of the children and my father was a Korean War Marine veteran who worked for one of the big three automakers until he retired. He instilled in all the children the value of family, of honesty, of integrity, hard work, admitting when you're wrong and of standing your ground when you're right. Taking these strong conservative values, and adding an 24 years of military service and culture of integrity, motivation, courage, team work, selflessness, lead by example and service to country and the American people sculpted me into the person I am today. I support what is right and moral and I oppose what is wrong and destructive for the society. My creed of "Service before Self" comes from my strong military background. "People before Politics" is an outgrowth of that. I'll support those items and issues that help residents and I'll oppose those which don't. Party doesn't matter. A good idea is a good idea wherever it come from
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
I don't receive much, if any, new media coverage, whether in print of digital. However, I do have my facebook page and I do have a website (Bonnell2020.com). Unlike most politicians, I don't have one for my TRUE feelings, viewpoints and opinions and another for 'public use'. My facebook page hasn't been sanitized to remove controversial issues or opinions and my website will express my views and opinions. I don't pretend to be anyone other than who I am. If you're a liberal, pro-socialist, leftist then I am definitely NOT the candidate for you. If you have conservative values and you want someone to represent you with honesty, integrity, consistency and common sense - then you might consider voting for me.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
Do I have a formal education in politics? No. I have no "Bachelor of Fine Arts" to help me decide if the road / gasoline tax should be spend ON the roads and infrastructure or should it be diverted to pay for special interest projects. *goes to the roads - ALL of it*. My experience is that I'm a life-long member of Macomb County. I was raised in Macomb, I've lived, loved, learned and raised a family in Macomb County. I've suffered with my neighbors and community during the bad times, and I've enjoyed the success too. I haven't lost touch with the people of my district because I AM one of those people. I know our concerns and issues and I want to bring those concerns to Lansing and have them heard and acted upon! I want to do my civic duty for the people of my district and my community. I spent most of my adult life serving this great nation of ours and I wish to continue serving the people who send my to Lansing and get their issues resolved.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No and absolutely NO.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I don't accept donations from ANYONE. I'm trying to be a representative OF the people, not using them as a personal ATM. The people have better things to spend their money on. I also don't ask for volunteers. I don't use my neighbors and community as FREE LABOR. I won't be a professional, bought-and-paid for politician - beholden to those organizations and special interests who fund them and expect a return for their investment *usually at the expense of the tax payers.* I don't want to be a career politician. I want to due my duty for my community, get some of our issues heard and resolved, then find someone with similar beliefs, viewpoints and integrity and let them relieve me and take up the mantle of representing our community. I work FOR the people, not the party, not special interest, not lobbyists. I'm not going to Lansing to make influential friends, finding corporate sponsors. I'm going to represent US and our concerns.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
Neutral
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I'm a strong supporter of the Second Amendment. It's a inherent right to own a firearm. With that said, I am in favor of SOME restrictions. If a person is deemed by a medical board as being mentally and emotionally unstable and are a risk to themselves and the public, they obviously should not be allowed to possess or use a firearm. Decisions to strip a citizen of their right to own a firearm can always be appealed to the appropriate board or panel *medical, judicial, etc*.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1. Legislation to review and reduce the tax burden on Michigan tax payers. Michigan has enough fraud, waste, abuse, corruption, diversions and special interest projects to fund or partially fund areas that tax payers are being billed for. 2. Taxes. Goes along with number 1. Make sure the taxes that are taken from the people are USED for the purpose they were collected for. I.e. Road taxes actually go to the roads and infrastructure. 3. Economic Zones: To make it easier for those who need employment or to seek higher employment. Simple math. The more people that are gainfully employed, the less assistance they need from the State. Workers will have more money to spend helping the economy, creating more jobs requiring more workers. Pretty much a win- win.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism in an ACTUAL form should never be accepted or tolerated. It should be removed from our society because we're all AMERICANS first. With that said, there is a lot of "fabricated" racism, i.e. table manners are racist, hurricanes are racist, wood is racist, breakfast cereals are racist, and all the other nonsense. That's not actual racism - it's fabricated racism which does nothing but hard and divide society. I'm sure there is actual racism in this country - you can't have 360+ million people and not have a few bad apples - but those actual incidents are few and far between and are or should be immediately addressed and corrected. In the absence of actual racism - the Left continues to fabricate issues and make ridiculous claims of implied racism *the nation's food is racist* to divide American society. Real racism - unacceptable. "Fabricated" racism is a different threat to the U.S>
