15. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?
Man’s misguided will to control others and force them into certain beliefs and behaviors were and are the impetus for our system of governance that seeks to protect liberty and freedom. The history of oppression by kings and the ruling class brought settlers to our shores. They sought freedom to worship and freedom from economic oppression. When those restrictions followed them here they decided to establish a system by which those types of oppression could no longer be a factor.
16. Briefly list three (3) political or legislative issues of most concern to you, and explain why each is important to you.
Prolife issues: I originally became involved in politics through the prolife movement. One of the most important things we can do as a nation is to ensure that the most vulnerable among us are protected. Liberty: We are a freedom loving nation but our government is placing more burdens on us every day whether it is Obamacare or other onerous regulations. Government needs to get out of the way so that Americans can excel and achieve the American dream. Jobs/Economy: Our economy is suffering & jobs are leaving Kansas. We need representation to fight for our local economy. The 4th District has lost half of its major aircraft companies. Leadership is essential to keeping jobs here – that is something I did when I was in Congress. The government has outsourced those high-paying, high-quality defense jobs to overseas companies - something I oppose. I will fight to remove barriers created by the government including: regulation, energy policy, healthcare, legal reform, taxes & trade.
17. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?
No, when a mother’s life is in danger during a pregnancy, both the mother and child should be treated equally.
18. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
God, Constitution, Voters. Congress and the Supreme Court are intended to be co-equal powers in a system of checks and balances Congress is ultimately answerable to the voters.
19. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian who believes that we will one day be accountable to our creator for the life we live here. All that we do and what we are is important – all that is said and done in this life should be done with eternity in mind. I believe that we are called to always strive toward a more righteous and moral existence – one that mirrors the example of Christ.
