QUESTIONNAIRE

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

1. Free enterprise and the right to private property turn mankind's natural self interest into the fairest and most productive economic system there is, and are the key to national prosperity.

Strongly Agree

2. It is the government’s responsibility to be sure everyone has health care and a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

3. The United States must maintain a nuclear arsenal that is safe, reliable, modern and numerically superior to those of potential adversaries.

Strongly Agree

4. Government should enforce laws designed to protect the border and to prevent illegal entry of persons into the country.

Strongly Agree

5. The Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) should be repealed by Congress.

Strongly Agree

6. Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

7. Marriage is a union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

8. Efforts to bring Islamic law (shariah) to America do not pose a threat to our country and its Constitution.

Strongly Disagree

9. Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which permitted our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

10. Governments should pay to develop wind and solar energy solutions when these are not economically feasible.

Strongly Disagree

11. More restrictive gun control laws are needed now to protect public safety.

15. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?

Human Nature is static and history has proved man will grow government, which reduces liberty and opportunity, if given a chance. Limited government and separation of powers is a way to channel this tendency. Human Nature also shows man wants to be free to pursue his happiness. Only through limited government and a restriction on governmental power can liberty and happiness be achieved. Concentrated power breeds evil.

16. Briefly list three (3) political or legislative issues of most concern to you, and explain why each is important to you.

Debt/Budget/Spending: I see all three of these as related; the financial health is the basis for national security and prosperity. Without reducing the debt, balancing the budget, and curtailing spending, the US is in serious political, social, military, and international trouble. National Security: The current administration has all but destroyed the US alliance system. It can be restored, but our allies are going to be in shock for years at the betrayal they received at the hands of an American President. We must circle back around and reestablish our credibility with each nation we call friend and build back a foundation of trust. Immigration: We need to enforce our border laws and stand by the rule of law. For every illegal immigrant allowed into the US, an American is denied a job, pays more in taxes, and suffers serious social injustice and expense.

17. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?

I am pro-life. The government should not pay for abortions.

18. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.

God, Constitution, Voters, Congress

19. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian: The bible passage that guides my life and work is Matthew 25:40 (“The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.’). In both my professional experiences I have been in a position of authority, representing either the police power of the state or the complicated law of the courts, it was important to me to remember my place and treat the "least" of my brothers and sisters with respect and deference as a public servant. As a congressman, I will be mindful of the same.
