RIGHT TO LIFE
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).

I believe in the dignity of human life and in supporting women through difficult pregnancies. Colorado’s constitution currently limits what the Legislature can do, and I respect the rule of law. Within those constraints, I will always advocate for policies that value life and support families. Providers such as Planned Parenthood also provide services that do not include abortion services and those other health services should not be jeopardized.
Under what circumstances should an elective abortion be allowed?
Colorado's Constitution already has spoken on this issue. I will always support women and families while respecting the voice of the voters who have already spoken on this in Colorado.
Human life deserves legal protection from conception until natural death.

This must be nuanced - any sort of protection must include provisions for the protection of the health of mother, IVF concerns, and numerous other medical concerns that are best left to a woman and her medical care team, not the government.
The lives of human embryos created through artificial methods ought to be protected from purposeful destruction.

I believe that there has to be balance in this area. I have met with and have friends who work in IVF which does inform some of my thoughts here.
The Comstock Act, which bans interstate transportation of abortion-inducing drugs, should be enforced.

What is your position on the minimum wage?
Artificial wage manipulation via government interference is bad for business, bad for the economy, and bad for the workers. While minimum safety and employment standards are a must, government should limit its interference in employer/employee matter

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
This means that the government cannot tell me how to practice my religion. It also means that the government is not endorsing any religion or religious practices including favoritism of any such group.
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

I believe that education policy is best made at the local level where the members of each community have the greatest control. Under certain programs we have also seen the cost of higher education explode which has led to many young people struggling during their early years after college.

As a prosecutor the term child abuse is defined in Colorado law already so I am neutral on that terminology. I do not believe that this should be a practice for children.
Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman. No government has the authority to alter this definition.

For religious people with these beliefs I think that this is perfect and we should live in a society where government cannot force an individual to violate these beliefs. For purposes of record-keeping, vital statistics, insurance benefits, etc government should define this differently especially when it is the will of the people for this to be defined broadly. Government cannot force a religious institution to recognize something different that violates their religious beliefs.

I believe that there should be minimal involvement by the government in this area. An individual's beliefs can inform if they participate in this type of activity but it is not the job of government (for the most part) to dictate how a person can spend their money or resources.

I am a Christian. I attend a protestant church and these teachings involve how I attempt to live my life and look to what is ethical and moral.

I would not say that it needs urgent action but it should not be discounted. As with everything in life we need to weigh the costs and the benefits when looking at policy which impacts environments and climate change.

In Colorado we need to be an "all of the above" state. While we are very reliant on renewable energy (which is good), we still must have the reliability of fossil fuels to meet base load production for example.

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I agree with background checks for firearms. I do not believe in a regulatory system that makes it either too expensive or too time consuming that ends up as a de facto infringement on the 2nd Amendment. I believe that it is on the firearm owner to be responsible in their gun ownership.
