QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Strongly Agree
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
Strongly Agree
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Strongly Agree
If the U.S. Supreme Court overturns Roe v. Wade, North Carolina should repeal its law allowing abortion up to 20 weeks of pregnancy.
Strongly Agree
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
Only in cases of rape and to protect the life of the mother. It should never be used as a means of birth control.
ECONOMY
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Strongly Disagree
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
Strongly Agree
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Strongly Agree
Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.
Strongly Agree
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
Strongly Agree
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
Yes
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
The words "separation of church and state" do not actually appear in the US Constitution. The 1st Amendment says "Congress shall make no laws respecting and establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". To me, that simply means the government can not compel someone to practice a certain religion. However, it also means the government can't prevent someone from practicing their religion. People should be able to enjoy religious liberty. I think its totally absurd when extremist groups like the ACLU say the 1st amendment prohibits the display of Crosses at public cemeteries or nativity scenes at Christmas.
HEALTHCARE
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
Strongly Disagree
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I believe that the private sector and not the government is the answer to better healthcare. If you take Medicare as an example, private Medicare Advantage enrollment has been growing in leaps and bounds because Advantage plans run by private companies can provide better value and more benefits than government run traditional Medicare. I also support the Trump Administration's efforts to provide more transparency in the billing process.
NATIONAL SECURITY
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
Strongly Agree
IMMIGRATION
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Strongly Agree
State, sheriff and local law enforcement agencies should be required to participate in the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) 287(g) Program to enhance the safety and security of their communities to identify and detain aliens.
Strongly Agree
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
I recognize the need for legal immigration. We should allow those with the skills and talents needed in our workforce the first opportunity to immigrate here. We should vet these people and ensure the will be law abiding citizens and are coming here to work and better not only their lives but to be productive citizens.
EDUCATION
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
I support allowing public high school students to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Strongly Disagree
Parents should have the right to know what schools are teaching their children about sex and LGBT issues and should have the right to opt their children out of any instruction to which they object.
Strongly Agree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian who believes in religious freedom and liberty. I am also a strong proponent of limited government, low taxes and peace through strength.
ABOUT YOU
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
During my previous tenure in the NC House, I voted for the Tax Reform Act of 2013 which lowered taxes across the board. I also voted for the pro-2nd Amendment bill HR 937 which allowed restaurant carry. In addition I voted to repeal Common Core and in favor of additional funding for charter schools. I strongly support a secure border and the enforcement of our immigration laws. I believe the state and local law enforcement officials have a responsibility to assist the federal government whenever possible with immigration enforcement as it is a public safety issue. I have no problem with immigration as long as its done legally and proper vetting has occurred.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I previously held the office from 2013-2015. I also served on the Speaker's staff for a year following my term. I can hit the ground running from day 1 and will not have a learning curve like other "freshmen" members. I also have a BA in Political Science from Wake Forest University. Following graduation, I interned in the DC office of Congresswoman Virginia Foxx. I have several years of experience in the banking and finance sector. I worked for Wells Fargo and BB&T. During my time at BB&T I was a Trust Analyst and managed the daily administration and compliance for the 401K plans for 17 different companies. I have a strong grasp on fiscal and financial policy. I have also worked at the grassroots level of politics since 2005. I served as Treasurer of the Davidson County GOP for 5 years, served as an executive committee member and at various times served as the county chair for the campaigns of Lt. Gov Dan Forest, Congressman Richard Hudson, and Senator Thom Tillis
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am the first in my family to go to college. Both of my parents grew up poor, as did their parents, and they instilled in me the value of hard work and personal responsibility along with teaching me good Christian values. I want to take those traits and values back to Raleigh so I can fight for conservative values and help continue the progress the Republican led General Assembly has made since 2011.
JUDICIAL PHILOSOPHY
I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?
Yes
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
I do not believe in any restrictions on law abiding citizens. The 2nd Amendment is clear, it gives law abiding citizens the right to keep and bare arms.
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Disagree
The Electoral College should be abolished.
Strongly Disagree
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1) Continuing to lower the tax burden for the citizen of NC. 2) Implementing Constitutional carry of firearms 3) Requiring local law enforcement to work with ICE to combat illegal immigration
