18. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?
They knew that mankind is flawed; what tradition refers to as "original sin." Man is capable of true good, but because he is marred by sin, the Founders knew that no man/men could be trusted with absolute authority because it would tend to abuse. Therefore they created the system of checks and balances and strictly limited powers to stop the abuse of that power by innate human sinfulness, which is always yearning after power and motivated by pride.
19. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
God, Voters/People (the Constitution is called into being by the people, "we the people"), Constitution, Congress, Supreme Court.
20. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?
There is never a just reason for abortion. It is intrinsically evil under all circumstances. How a baby came into existence is irrelevant to whether or not that baby has a right to live. None of us choose how we came into this world.
21. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a practicing Roman Catholic faithful to the traditions of the Church and loyal to the Magisterium. I consider myself a "traditional" Roman Catholic, which means I prefer my liturgy in Latin with lots of incense, preferably in the pre-1962 rite. Along with the popes of the 19th century I reject much of the morals of the modern world as being fundamentally opposed to Christian revelation and natural law. I seek a faith that transforms man into the image of God, not a faith that is transformed by man until man becomes God.
