14. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?
The Declaration of Independence sets the stage for the Constitution. "We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness." The Founders established this government of laws (not a government of men) in order to secure each person's Creator endowed rights. The separation of powers limits the chance for tyranny.
15. Briefly list three (3) political or legislative issues of most concern to you, and explain why each is important to you.
1. Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) must be repealed. As a physician I see my ability to provide excellent care to patients being increasingly limited, the expense of care taking precedence over quality of care, etc. Senator Tom Coburn has proposed a good alternative with Health Savings Accounts, allowing purchase of insurance across state lines, continuing to allow exclusion of pre-existing conditions, etc. Free market alternatives work. 2. Secure the border. Then consider an orderly path to citizenship, not amnesty. E-Verify or similar system required for all employers. 3. Fess up to the American people about the financial mess we are in. I would propose a flat tax or "fair tax, " reduce the taxes on corporations to encourage investment at home, eliminate the current IRS as we know it. No spending on foreign aid other than humanitarian relief in natural disasters.
16. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?
I would allow for abortion only to save the life of the mother.
17. 18. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a "born again" Christian, raised in a Christian home, raised my family in the same way. We home schooled our children not just to preserve their faith, but to give them the best education possible in a classical sense. I have brought my family on at least a dozen medical missions trips to jungle and mountain areas of Peru. This has taught them to appreciate what we have here in the USA, and gave them a habit of service to others which continues today. All three of our children are in some form of ministry today. I love the practice of medicine, and find that it has been a great career to minister to the needs of others for nearly 30 years now! I love our country, and seek the office of Representative in the House of Representatives to stand up for what is right.
