14. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?
It was man's tendency to create centralized governments which cater to special interest groups that led our founders to create a system of representative government. To avoid centralization, they created the Executive, Legislative and Judicial Branches, none of which were intended to wield supreme power. To further limit the power of government, they allowed the states to establish sovereign governments which can challenge federal laws.
15. Briefly list three (3) political or legislative issues of most concern to you, and explain why each is important to you.
Truth - To learn the truth, we need to look beyond the mainstream media, which are supported by special interest groups. Our elected officials are key resources on the facts concerning our government. As your representative, I'll 'meet the press' each week to insure the public has accurate information Justice - Statistically, 80% of our nation's wealth is controlled by only 20% of the US population. Our labor-intensive industries have been shipped overseas, due to a high corporate tax rate. This has resulted in high unemployment and over $1.3 trillion of tax-deferred profits. Thus, our federal tax burden is largely borne by those who are least able to pay. To remove this inequity, we need to create tax breaks for firms that invest in job-producing industries, here in the US. The American Way - Freedom of choice is an inherent part of our democracy. There are no mandates other than those 'We the People' give to our government. Mandatory laws, such as Obama Care, cannot stand.
16. Should abortion be allowed under extenuating circumstances? If so, what circumstances?
In his Preamble to the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Jefferson declared: 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness'. Chief among these God-given rights is the Right to Life; without which, all others fail. Thus, we must never abandon our resolve to defend, protect.and preserve this right. We believe life begins at conception. Thus, abortion violates a child's right to life and can never be justified.
17. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
Our Founders believed our basic rights spring from God, our highest source of authority, and that these rights are ratified and preserved by the Constitution, Voters, Congress, and the Supreme Court, in that order.
18. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that, as George Washington once said: "It is impossible to rightly govern a nation without God and without the Bible." I believe our nation's problems will be solved as we apply the 'Golden Rule', the rule taught by Christ himself, which is: 'Do unto others as you would have them do unto you'.
