16. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?
As Lord Acton put it, "Power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely." Hitler, Stalin, and Mao Zedong alone should be ample evidence of this truth, and we haven't even gone back more than a century or so. Even King David, a model of godliness and humility, was not above the corruption of power. The genius of the Constitution lies in its recognition of corrupting influence of power and its framing of a system that mitigates this influence.
17. The founders established pure democracy in the Constitution because they believed that it is the best form of government to ensure the safety and equitable treatment of all citizens.
Strongly Agree
18. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
God, Constitution, Voters. All authority descends from God. The Constitution has authority only insofar as it is in accord with God's authority. And a vote has authority only insofar as it is Constitutional.
19. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am, simply put, a Christian. That is, I believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, took all my sins on himself on the cross. I owe him all I am that is of any good and all I ever hope to be. He is the joy and the strength of my heart. He is the one for whom I am running this race. As Jesus himself put it, "..whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me." It is to speak up on behalf of the unborn, who have no voice, that I am in this race. More specifically, I'm running to bring the Heartbeat Bill to the Ohio Senate floor and to advocate for its passage.
