What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
Given too much power and authority, some individuals tend to abuse their authority. The separation of powers in the three branches of government was intended to provide a safeguard against that happening in our governmental system.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian. I have attended the Catholic church all of my life. My beliefs are succinctly summarized in the Apostles Creed. If I need to recite it for you, I can.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

The only record of votes that i have made is my record while I was a City Councilman and Mayor of Midland. You are welcome to examine that record. Other than that i can provide outlines of speeches that I have given which express my views and positions.
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
Reduce the size and reach of government; reduce taxes and regulations. Free up the private sector and free enterprise to allow human creativity and entrepreneurship to occur. If the private sector is given more freedom, more jobs will be created and unemployment will decrease.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
This is a complex issue. We definitely do not need to have government provided or controlled healthcare. We need to allow the private sector and competition within the healthcare sector to function as much as possible. So the fewer rules and regulations on the provision of healthcare, the better, although I recognize the propriety of certain rules and requirements to insure the safety of recipients of healthcare services. Our Medicaid and Medicare systems need serious scrutiny. I am in favor of requirements that able-bodied people be required to perform a minimum number of "community involvement" hours such as was recently approved in the State of Kentucky. I understand the need to insure that those who cannot take care of themselves are somehow taken care of; but, where possible, we should work toward encouraging the private sector and community and charitable organizations to assist in the care and provision of those who cannot take care of themselves.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
Reduce Taxes and Regulations. Do the basics of government, and stay out of the way of the private sector.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I have two degrees in Economics (a B.A. and an M.A. from Texas Tech) and a degree in law (J.D. from University of Texas). I have had a career as an attorney, representing businesses and individuals who are property owners and who have or are involved in businesses. I was also a co-founder of a Bank almost 20 years ago; the Bank now has branches in 4 different communities and is currently expanding into other communities. I understand how private businesses function, how they are motivated and what drives or deters them. In addition, I served as City Councilman and Mayor of Midland for 8 years.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I am prepared to go to Austin to fight for the people of Senate District 31 and for the people of Texas. We need elected representatives in Austin who understand the proper role of government and the proper role of the private sector. I do, and I am ready to go to work to make Texas government better and more efficient. I am prepared to fight to reduce the size and cost of the bureaucracy in Austin, bring more decision-making authority back to the local level, and to incorporate common sense back into Texas government.
