QUESTIONNAIRE
RIGHT TO LIFE
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
When the life of the mother is clearly at risk.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive funds from federal, state, or local governments (including Title X grants).
Strongly Agree
If Roe v. Wade is overturned by the US Supreme Court, how far are you willing to go to roll back North Carolina's statutory abortion law that allows abortion up to 20 weeks?
Abortion is morally wrong and innocent life must be protected. If the US Supreme Court strikes down Roe v. Wade, returning policy-making power to the states over abortion, I will do everything in my power as a State Senator, lawyer and Christian to protect innocent, unborn life. Just as I did when I was in the NC Senate before, I will advocate to limit or ban abortion in North Carolina, particularly late-term abortion every chance I get.
I support 'aid in dying' laws which legalize assisted suicide and euthanasia.
Strongly Disagree
Would you support a limitation on chemical abortion that protects women from taking abortion pills without the care and supervision of a qualified physician?
Yes
RELIGIOUS LIBERTY
Individuals and businesses should be required to provide services even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.
Strongly Disagree
Under what circumstances can government close churches?
The U. S. and NC Constitutions are crystal clear: the First Amendment and Article I, Sect. 13 guarantee freedom of religion. Governor Cooper was wrong to close churches during the COVID pandemic. He violated the U.S and NC Constitutions and his oath.
What should be the relationship between the church and the state?
The state is restrained by the U.S. and NC Constitutions from interfering in churches or individuals' religious beliefs but the people and their churches/religious organizations are not restricted whatsoever from influencing the state. The state should not interfere with religious expression or churches; the church and believers should influence the government and policy.
HEALTHCARE
What most closely matches your view on healthcare: A) Healthcare for all should be guaranteed and funded by the government with no private healthcare option. (includes "universal healthcare," "medicare for all," etc.) B) Healthcare insurance funded by the government should be available for all who want it, along with private healthcare options. C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available, but no other taxpayer-funded programs are necessary. D)Tax-payer funded health care should be abolished in all forms, and Medicaid and Medicare should be de-funded.
C) Medicaid and Medicare should remain available. The VA also provides healthcare programs for our veterans, keeping our promises to them for their service to us. I do not support the creation of further healthcare programs, spending money the country does not have and mortgaging our children's future. Government involvement in health care is already too big and too much, hindering good care and too often threatens religious freedom and sincerely held religious beliefs.
Under what circumstances (if any) should a government, school, or employer be allowed to require vaccinations?
Most vaccines that have been FDA approved have had enormous benefits for public health. History clearly shows that effective vaccines delivered through well thought out and implemented programs lead to healthier people with longer life spans (e.g. the polio and small pox vaccines). However, there should always be health and religious exemptions for any vaccination requirements. Attempts to force vaccines by mandates, such as the COVID-19 vaccines, before thorough scientific study and buy-in from the public is counter-productive and wrong.
ECONOMY
The government should do more to close the gap between the working class and the wealthy.
Strongly Disagree
Free markets encouraged the most prosperous and generous nation in human history. Government doesn't have a role in "leveling the playing field," taking from some to redistribute to others. Policy-makers should create/encourage an environment of opportunity for all and try to "lift all boats" by fair taxation, limited regulation, and minimal intervention. America should be the land of opportunity to reach an individual's God given potential, not the "land of government ordained outcomes".
What changes, if any, should be made to the tax code?
I will continue to work to lower the Personal Income Tax with a goal of eventually eliminating it. I began this process when I was in the Senate in 2013 and it has been continued up through the most recent legislative session. I support continued simplification of the tax code to lower compliance costs and complexity. I intend to fight for increasing the standard deduction for families, which benefits low-income and middle class families the most. We must continue to work to lower the tax and regulatory burden on small businesses and taxes on families so they can grow and save and prosper.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Strongly Disagree
EDUCATION
States should allow parents to use the Opportunity Scholarship Program to fund private school for their children.
Strongly Agree
In what situations does a parent not have the right to know what their child is being taught in public school?
Never. Parents absolutely have a right to know what their children are being taught in public school -- at all times. Period.
When should parents be restricted from speaking in school board meetings?
Never. I cannot envision an appropriate or constitutional reason to restrict parents from being able to exercise their First Amendment rights and speak at school board meetings, advocating for their children. Parents have the final say about their children's health and education.
CRIMINAL JUSTICE & PUBLIC SAFETY
Police officers should be personally immune from prosecution for conduct consistent with departmental policy (qualified immunity) while on duty.
Strongly Agree
I support redirecting funds from police departments to mental health and community programs.
Strongly Disagree
2ND AMENDMENT
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
The right to keep and bear arms as described in the 2nd Amendment is a fundamental right. North Carolina does not need any new gun laws (aka gun control) that would restrict this constitutional right.
Victims of gun violence should be able to sue firearms dealers and manufacturers.
Strongly Disagree
OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES
Would you support legislation that prohibits biological boys from competing on girls sports teams?
Yes
ABOUT YOU
What do you think is the general purpose of government?
The general purpose of government is provide for the common good and domestic tranquility while preserving our civil, political and religious liberties, protecting the rights endowed to us by our Creator, including life, liberty, and the enjoyment of the fruits of our labor.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?
Very Conservative
Please provide publicly available information, including interviews and media reports, validating your answer to the previous question (other than your website).
Please see my voting record in the NC Senate from 2011-2016
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized in either civil or criminal court for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No
What else would you like voters to know about you, including your legislative priorities?
My priorities in the NC Senate will include: Continuing tax reform and economic growth policies; Education reforms in traditional public schools, particularly in light of the damage done to our children during COVID lock-downs; increasing the number and eligibility of opportunity scholarships; stopping CRT and similar ideologies from infiltrating our educational system; protecting home schooling; passing pro-life legislation and limiting abortion; protecting religious freedom; removing biological males from women's sports competitions; tackling the Fentanyl epidemic and the surge in crime and violence; election integrity.
VALUES
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
Strongly Agree
I support adding gender identity as a specially protected class in non-discrimination laws.
Strongly Disagree
I agree with Critical Race Theory (CRT) which asserts that the institutions in the United States are fundamentally racist.
Strongly Disagree
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian. As such, I know that I am a sinner, redeemed by Grace and the sacrifice of my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. My values and worldview are informed and guided by His teaching and the Truth found in scriptures of the Bible.
ELECTIONS AND VOTING
People should be able to vote without photo identification.
Strongly Disagree
What laws would you propose to change present voting practices?
When I was in the NC Senate, I championed adding Voter ID to the state constitution. Unfortunately, courts have thwarted the will of the people. There is overwhelming public support for Voter ID. If I return to the Senate, I would push every legal avenue to finally make Voter ID a reality in North Carolina.
EQUALITY
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism is evil and repugnant. it is the opposite of Christ's teaching. As such, racist and Marxist teaching and theories such as Critical Race Theory (CRT) should be fought whenever found and never permitted to be used to indoctrinate our children to hate one another. I believe that CRT, should it become prevalent, could pose a threat someday to the domestic security of the US. However, at this time, I do not see racism as a "threat to domestic security".
ENERGY & ENVIRONMENT
Which comes closest to your view? A) Stricter environmental laws and regulations cost too many jobs and hurt the economy. B) Stricter environmental laws and regulations are worth the cost.
A) . North Carolina has vibrant natural resources, clean air and water. My family and I love getting out into North Carolina's great outdoors and take full advantage of the beaches, rivers and mountains. While we should continue efforts to preserve and improve the environment, we can have smart, limited regulations that keep our environment clean and preserves North Carolina's natural wonders, while not choking off job growth and the economy.
