16. What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers within the Constitution?
America's Founding Fathers recognized the Biblical truth that left to his own devices, Man will gravitate toward sin. That is why absolute power concentrated in any one man's hands will "corrupt absolutely". It is also why they wisely crafted our government to consist of separated powers, held accountable by a system of checks and balances. And, it is why the current trend toward unchecked executive power and court-rendered dictates are so corrosive to our liberty.
17. The founders established pure democracy in the Constitution because they believed that it is the best form of government to ensure the safety and equitable treatment of all citizens.
Disagree
18. Based on the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, please arrange the following entities, starting with the highest source of authority, and continue the list in descending order of authority, skipping any that do not apply: Academia, Congress, Constitution, God, Industry, Media, Professional Sports, Supreme Court, Voters.
God, Voters, Constitution, Congress, Supreme Court * The Constitution is our supreme written law and protects the rights of the few from the whims of the majority, but Voters supersede the Constitution because they have the authority to amend it.
19. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
As I told my constituents when I first ran for office, I am a Christian, a Conservative, and a Republican--in that order. If the Republican Party ever stops reflecting Conservative values, I won't be a Republican. And if the "Conservatives" in America ever stop reflecting Christian values, I won't be a Conservative. I will always be true to Christ. I serve in government because like Abraham Kuyper I believe there is no realm of existence over which Christ does not claim sovereignty. As a committed Christian and minister, serving Jesus Christ is my greatest priority and motivates all I do in every arena of service.
