Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I am deeply committed to upholding the sanctity of life and protecting the unborn. I believe the right to life is the most basic of human rights. In Congress, I’ve voted to stop taxpayer funded abortions and fought to investigate Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers for the horrific practice of buying and selling the body parts of unborn babies. I’m also a proud cosponsor of the Pain-Capable Unborn Child Protection Act, which is an important step in returning to the pro-life values that define us as Americans.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
For eight years, Washington turned a blind eye to the threat of radical Islamic terrorism, refusing to even call it by its name. Now, with President Trump, we are taking actions to halt the spread of radical Islamic terrorism and keep Americans safe. That includes extreme vetting of those wishing to come to our shores to ensure they are not coming here to spread hate and threaten the lives of Americans.
What in the nature of mankind caused America’s Founders to carefully define, separate, and limit powers in the Constitution?
Our Founding Fathers were wise, thoughtful men who had just shed the bounds of tyranny in Europe. They knew that American democracy needed a system of checks and balances to ensure that power could not be concentrated too strongly in any one branch or individual. Thus, they created a system built on accountability, integrity and democracy – the exact opposite of British colonial rule.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I am a Christian with a deeply seated belief that Jesus Christ is our Lord and Savior. I'm an elder in my church and have raised by my children in a loving, nurturing Christian home.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I believe the relationship between doctors and patients must be protected and should not be tainted by bureaucrats. In Congress, I’ve voted multiple times to repeal and replace Obamacare with commonsense, patient-centered health reforms that focus on lowering costs, keeping Washington out of the doctor-patient relationship, and improving access to quality health care. Since the disastrous implementation of Obamacare, premiums have skyrocketed, jobs have been lost, and the price tag of the law has skyrocketed to more than $1 trillion. I’m also working to increase access to care in rural areas. That’s why I’ve cosponsored legislation to improve telehealth services and have voted for legislation to stop harmful cuts that would only hurt rural patients.
What role should government play in boosting the economy?
I firmly believe that a good job solves a lot of problems. That’s why I cosponsored the RECLAIM Act to bring $1 billion in economic diversification funding to hard-hit coal communities; helped pass a highway bill that invests billions in the construction and repair of West Virginia’s infrastructure; and have worked to foster new growth industries such as tourism and high-tech research. And I’ve fought for the people of West Virginia by voting to deny Obama the authority to fast-track trade deals, such as TPP, that fail to protect good-paying Mountain State jobs from going overseas.
What changes should be made to the tax code?
I’ve seen firsthand the way that our tax code had strangled hard-working West Virginians and small businesses. It was overcomplicated. It didn’t encourage job creation, and it didn’t help working-class families. That’s why President Trump led the charge to reform our tax code, and I am proud to have personally worked with him to pass the historic Tax Cuts & Jobs Act. The new tax plan focuses on helping middle-class families so they can keep more of what they earn. West Virginians go to work every day to provide for their families, and they know best how to spend their money, not the government. The Tax Cuts & Job Plan also lowers taxes on our small businesses so they can grow and create more jobs, and we will encourage companies to invest in America. As your United States Senator, I’ll continue working with President Trump to cut taxes and grow our economy.
What is the best way to bring down unemployment?
The Obama administration’s policies have devastated our state and led directly to the loss of good-paying West Virginia jobs. In Congress I have fought against these excessive regulatory schemes and costly healthcare programs driven by the administration and D.C. bureaucrats. West Virginia families will always be my main priority. In Congress, I support job training programs to put unemployed West Virginians back to work. I’m focused on bringing a pro-growth agenda to Washington, one that will provide certainty to West Virginia businesses and create jobs for the hard-working families in the state.
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
One of the best ways to shore up Social Security for future generations is to ensure more Americans are working. When more Americans are working, they’re earning a paycheck and also contributing to their retirement through their Social Security payments. We need to help grow our economy to create more good-paying jobs.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I was born and raised in the Mountain State. My wife, Elizabeth, and I have raised three children here, volunteer in our community and attend First Presbyterian Church. I know that West Virginia values are worth fighting for. I’ve served as a volunteer leader for the Boy Scouts, Red Cross, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, and helped start Lily’s Place in Huntington to care for babies suffering from the drug crisis. I care deeply about the future of West Virginia. That’s why in 1994, I ran to serve in the West Virginia House of Delegates. I was elected and served three terms. In 2002, I was elected to the West Virginia Senate, serving until 2015. In 2014, I was elected to the United State House of Representatives and am currently serving in my second term. As the only candidate in the race who has supported Donald Trump since day one, I’m working side by side with President Trump to truly Make America and West Virginia Great Again.
