What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I voted to pass a balanced budget this past session as a freshman member. Texas is one of few governments who actually has to pass a balanced budget. There are a number of ways to cut the budget, but without Federal medicaid reform it's difficult to make major headway. Public education and healthcare consumes roughly 87% of the State's budget. I'd support eliminating economic development incentives, especially for green new deal-like policies and voted against extending them last session.

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
It is very clear that our founders believed that our rights as individuals come from God, not from government. As such, they developed documents enumerating our rights. "Separation of church and state" has been misapplied for generations, as the left claims the government cannot even acknowledge the existence of God. While the government has no right to force religiousness upon people, or to force religious tests, it's asinine to think that we shouldn't even be able to acknowledge the God who gave us rights as individuals.

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
The best way to promote healthcare coverage is for government to maintain a limited regulatory and limited tax environment. Getting government out of the way of the private sector is the best way to ensure large numbers of people are employed, many with benefits. As Ronald Reagan said, the best social program is a job.

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
President Trump is the first president in my lifetime who is actually taking border security and immigration seriously. In the Texas House, I voted for $800 million in border security. Our immigration policy should allow people into our country that are an asset to our economic system. The US desperately needs certain skill sets and a reformed immigration system could allow for this. Keep in mind that legally remaining in our country is not the same as citizenship. That said, we need to be cautious about the number of folks coming in and immediately gaining government assistance. More than 60% of babies born in Texas are on Medicaid, which is unsustainable.

I am a Christian. I am a sinner, but Jesus was born to a virgin teenage mother in a stable, lived a perfect life, but was tortured and killed because of my sins. I have grace through faith in Jesus Christ and I have been forgiven. My values are deeply rooted in my faith and in the original intent of our founding fathers both nationally and in Texas. I believe that true freedom only exists outside the reaches of government; that government is designed to very few things, but do them well. Phrases that best describe my values are limited government, pro-life, pro-constitution, pro-capitalism and pro-America. It is my job as State Representative to ensure that government of, by and for the people remains intact.

My record during the 86th legislature was in the top 5.3% of conservative legislators as ranked in an independent review of our voting records by Rice University. Out of the 150 State Representatives, I was number 8. The Club for Growth, known for their US congressional reviews and CPAC conference, ranked me tied for 7th most conservative Rep on pro-growth economic issues. On social issues, Texas Right to Life rated me at 100% Pro-life for the 2019 legislative session. Texas Values Action awarded me as a 2019 Faith and Family Champion.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
I don't believe any one specific educational experience qualifies you to hold this position. However, I do hold a political science degree from Texas A&M University. I have served as a city councilman, three terms and a Republican Precinct Chair, four times as a delegate to the State Convention of the Republican Party of Texas and, most recently, have just completed my freshman term in the Texas House.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
No.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I was sworn into office in January 2019 and spent every day in Austin fighting for the rights of the Texans I represent. Once the dust settled, I had one of the most conservative records in the Texas House and advanced the ball on issues important to the folks in my district - like tollway financial transparency, property tax reform and relief, and our public schools. I also worked on red meat issues like life, the 2nd Amendment and religious liberty. If you send me back to Austin for a second term, you'll get more the same in 2021.

I support restrictions against felons, violent criminals and those deemed by the courts to be mentally unstable. Otherwise, all law-abiding US citizens should have the right to keep and bear arms without onerous requirements from government.

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
Last session I was a co-author of the Heartbeat Bill and was disappointed that it didn't get more traction. I will work on that again next session. I also plan to work on pro-Second Amendment bills and bills to lower the overall cost of government, like continued School Finance Reform to lower school district property taxes.
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
No. We are living in a time where racism exists, but is not accepted culturally. In our economy, everyone has an opportunity to succeed.
