18. Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a Christian. As a Christian, my faith plays a primary role in my life, and has shaped my value and belief system; my faith has taught me the value and importance of freedom and liberty. As Ronald Reagan once said, "If we ever forget that we're one nation under God, then we will be one nation gone under.” Because of my faith I believe in the sanctity of human life, which means we must respect all human life from conception to death. I also believe in the centrality of the family unit specifically and community generally to the functioning of our country – civil society. Community and the private sector is much better positioned and equipped to solve societal problems than government, and should be encouraged to do so (i.e., less government). Government is to serve the people, not rule the people, and must put the needs and best interests of our citizens first.
