QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Did not answer

iVoterGuide Notes:

"I take seriously my responsibility to fight for legislation that protects and defends all human life." (votesmart.org) His first year in congress, 2003 he sponsored a bill banning both partial and late birth abortions, as well as voted to prohibit late-term abortions again in 2015. In 2009, Cornyn co-sponsored a bill to prohibiting federally funded abortions. Then he voted for the same thing in 2018. He voted again for prohibiting federally funded abortions in 2019. Then in 2019-2020, he voted for requirements to care for infants born after a failed abortion, the Born-Alive Survivors’ Protection Act, and the Pain Capable Unborn Protection Act.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Did not answer

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Did not answer

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

ECONOMY

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Did not answer

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Did not answer

iVoterGuide Notes:

Senator Cornyn voted yes on a bill that allows religious institutions to be exempt from being prohibited on employment discrimination based on sexual orientation or gender identity.  Senator Cornyn strongly believes that every individual is worthy of respect, and that the traditional institution of marriage is worthy of protection.

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Did not answer

iVoterGuide Notes:

"...the anti-religious behavior of so many members of the left is cause for immediate concern. That’s why I am fighting as hard as I can to stand up to the extreme left and stop any and all advances on our conservative values. Will you stand with me?" “In recent years, there has been increasing hostility toward religious expression in the public square in America, particularly among some courts. Public expression of faith is one of the freedoms most cherished by our Founding Fathers. Americans of all faith traditions have the right and freedom to exercise their religious beliefs openly and to celebrate collectively those beliefs." “In addition, America’s commitment to religious liberty should be a beacon to those around the world who are persecuted for their faith."

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

HEALTHCARE

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Did not answer

iVoterGuide Notes:

"It's time to deliver on our promise to repeal Obamacare, and we'll have that chance next week." (twitter.com) Senator Cornyn cosponsored the Patient Freedom Act, which provides state-based alternatives to coverage under the Affordable Care Act, and price transparency, in order to promote a more market-based health care system and to reform the provision of health insurance coverage by promoting health savings accounts. "Senator Cornyn believes that the President's health care law must be repealed and replaced with patient-centered reforms that lower costs and increase access. Under the President's health care law, Texans continue to face skyrocketing premiums, employers are abandoning plans to expand and laying off workers, and Washington bureaucrats – not patients and their Doctor – are making treatment decisions."

I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.

Did not answer

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

NATIONAL SECURITY

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Did not answer

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

Did not answer

IMMIGRATION

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Did not answer

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.

Did not answer

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Did not answer

iVoterGuide Notes:

"“On sanctuary cities, Cornyn said he defines the ambiguous and controversial term as an entity that doesn’t cooperate with federal law enforcement officials when they encounter undocumented immigrants. He said federal funds should be withheld from those governments but added that he doesn't want the federal government to overreach.” Julián Aguilar."Cornyn files bill to fund parts of wall, increase Border Patrol and ICE agents". The Texas Tribune. August 3, 2017. https://www.texastribune.org/2017/08/03/cornyn-files-bill-fund-parts-wall-increase-border-patrol-and-ice-agent/ §§ “'Time and time again, we are met with the tragic news of some other American citizen who is killed or injured or assaulted by somebody who has entered the country, who has been removed for violating our laws and then who keeps coming back time and time again, committing other criminal acts. We need to send a clear signal to those who attempt to enter the country illegally and violate our laws that if you ignore those laws, you will have to answer for them, and you certainly will not be allowed to come back.'”

Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.

Did not answer

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Did not answer

EDUCATION

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Did not answer

iVoterGuide Notes:

"At a national level, we must do more to ensure higher education isn’t cost prohibitive and provide more opportunities for students to take advantage of our higher education system. While some policymakers are proposing ideas such as 'free college for all,' we know it is impossible to implement at a national level. However, all states can make college more affordable by supporting cost-effective, innovative approaches such as those in Texas."

VALUES

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Did not answer

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
