Awakening the Sleeping Giant

There is a quote at the end of the movie Tora! Tora! Tora! by the Japanese commander after the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor that applies to the pro-parent education movement today. “I fear all we have done is to awaken a sleeping giant and fill him with a terrible resolve.” 

All over the country, parents have been “awakened” to the indoctrination of their children by the liberal, woke, education establishment . . . and they are resolved that it will not stand.

iVoterGuide witnessed their resolve in the results of the school board elections we covered last year. In the races with only one candidate who was rated on the conservative spectrum, the conservative candidate won 72 of the 104 races (that’s 69 percent!).

But this year, more voters need help! 69 percent of the nation’s districts are on the ballot. Through May, iVoterGuide is covering 201 school board races—more than we covered in all of 2022.

That’s 84 elections, in five states . . . with countless children affected.

And we are just getting started.

We plan to cover even more districts in additional states in the summer and fall. It is our largest project this year—and it’s keeping us busy!  

What is the Depth?

If you’ve ever done candidate research on your own, you know local races are especially difficult because information is scarce. This makes iVoterGuide particularly valuable. Our staff researchers are working tirelessly to track down and compile data on the future gatekeepers of our schools. These nuggets of information can include:

• Campaign finance records
• Political associations
• Social media and websites
• Public statements
• Endorsements by known conservative or liberal individuals and organizations
• Answers to our detailed questionnaire

Based on this information, our volunteer panelists are tasked with determining where the candidates stand on issues like radical sex education and gender confusion, pornographic library books, and Critical Race Theory. Each candidate receives a political ideology rating on the conservative to liberal spectrum.

A candidate’s voting history, when available, is often included in our guide. This tells voters which party primaries and General Elections the candidate has voted in—but never who the candidate voted for. Although this information is not considered by our panelists when they assign political ideology ratings, it may give voters insight into a candidate’s political leanings, especially because school board races are often nonpartisan.

With so many school board elections on the ballot, we prayerfully search for the best districts to apply our resources. We want to be good stewards of the finances entrusted to us, but we also want to help out wherever we can have the most impact! So, we look for areas where the parents are really getting engaged. Are there grassroots networks already deployed in that district? Has someone reached out to sponsor our research for that district? Are the existing school board members actively pushing a liberal, woke agenda?
