QUESTIONNAIRE

RIGHT TO LIFE

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Neutral

My opinion on this matter is not relevant to a school board member's responsibilities.

What role should the school serve in helping a student with an unwanted or crisis pregnancy?

Provide access to community resources and counseling options. Provide emotional support through school counselors.

RELIGIOUS LIBERTY

Teachers should be required to instruct students on mandated curriculum even if it would violate their moral and/or religious beliefs.

Disagree

If a teacher has a moral or religious objection to the mandated curriculum, that teacher should have the option to work with the administration on finding a substitute to teach the objectionable, but mandated, curriculum with the understanding that this may result in docked pay or an alternative assignment during the time a substitute is needed.

ECONOMY

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

What is your position on government funding of public education from Pre-K through college?

The government has a role in ensuring community access to quality education options and should provide parents with resources to help them decide what is best for their particular family situation. Removing barriers to accessing a quality education benefits the entire community.

EDUCATION

Abortion and gender-affirming providers, including Planned Parenthood, should be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Neutral

Consistent discipline creates a safe and orderly environment, which is essential for student learning.

Agree

Zero tolerance and one-size-fits-all approaches do not work. However, there need to be clear guidelines for discipline and it should be uniformly applied to all students.

Do you believe print and digital material available or presented to students should be easily accessible for public review, including those without children enrolled in school?

Yes

Any taxpayer within district boundaries should have the option to review material used by the district.

Educators should give students a thorough education in America's founding documents and cultivate American patriotism.

Strongly Agree

We should teach about the importance of America's founding documents, the conditions and context under which they were written, and the importance of these documents to our institutions today. We should present a fair assessment of America's contributions on the world stage and provide unbiased, fact-based, instruction around how this country was founded and expanded since its inception.

I support Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI).

Disagree

I support a welcoming and inclusive educational environment where students feel safe to learn. I support education that helps children understand the broader world, the impacts of globalization, and the impacts of consequences of a complex geopolitical environment. We should honor the contributions all Americans made to help us uphold our credo E Pluribus Unum.

I support eliminating the U.S. Department of Education and giving control back to states and communities.

Agree

I would support block grant funding to the Wisconsin DOI so that school districts do not lose access to funding or have a reduction in funding, but are no longer subservient to the DOE. Local communities and the state are more effective at determining what is best for our children's education.

Please list in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): American History, Art & Music, Civics, Critical Race Theory, Foreign Language, Gender Identity, Information Technology, Language Arts, Mathematics, Personal Finances, Physical Fitness, Political Activism, Science, Sexuality, Social Emotional Learning, Vocational Learning

Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, American History, Civics, Information Technology, Art & Music, Foreign Language, Personal Finances, Vocational Learning, Physical Fitness, Social Emotional Learning

The state should fund education by allowing dollars to follow the child instead of the bureaucracy, through a program which allows parents the freedom to choose their child's school – public, private, or homeschool.

Agree

We need better mechanisms to quantify the effectiveness of all options of schooling so that parents can make fact-based decisions on the best option for their educational dollars.

Which should students have: equity of outcomes or equality of opportunities?

Equality of Opportunities

Which type of written parental consent should be obtained before students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)? (A) Opt-In. (B) Opt-Out. (C) None.

Opt-In

2ND AMENDMENT

Faculty who are licensed to carry and have had ongoing training should be allowed to carry guns at school in order to respond to an active shooter situation.

Agree

If staff complete all required training and pass all background checks, including psychological checks, they should be allowed to protect students in an active shooter situation.

OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES

In the event of a pandemic, school districts can mandate whatever health precautions they deem necessary (including masks and vaccines) to protect students and staff.

Disagree

School districts should follow the guidance of the community and the parents.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and religious liberty, which of the following best describes you overall?

Lean Conservative

VALUES

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am Universalist Unitarian. I believe in the Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule as a foundation for life.

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Parents are responsible but should have options for educational or community resources if they are not comfortable or need more information. The appropriate age is best determined by parents but should be before puberty to ensure children understand it is a normal part of growing up.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- abortion methods and side effects; abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; sex acts and pleasures of sex; sexual orientation and gender identity; stages of pregnancy and fetal development

abstinence; consent; contraceptive methods; human anatomy/the reproductive system; physical and emotional health outcomes; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; community and church resources for additional information

Children have a right to reach maturity without chemical or surgical castration, which would damage their healthy bodies through surgeries and may cause a life-long dependence on cross-sex hormones.

Choose not to answer

My role as a potential school board member has no bearing on this question.

Children have the right to be protected from sexual grooming (including drag shows and explicit materials) in schools and libraries.

Agree

Schools should be a safe space free from predatory behavior.

Marriage is a God-ordained, sacred and legal union of one man and one woman essential to the formation and sustaining of a civil and prosperous society.

Parents have the fundamental right to raise their child in accordance with their beliefs and values, including the right to make decisions about the child's education and healthcare.

Agree

Parents should be able to make informed decisions about their children's education and healthcare.

Parents should have full and timely access to any and all records, including school and medical records, associated with their minor children.

Agree

ELECTIONS AND VOTING

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Disagree

Photo ID can be easily attained and is free in Wisconsin.

EQUALITY

Biological males should not be allowed to participate in women's sports or occupy biological women's spaces whether it be bathrooms, locker rooms, sorority houses, women's shelters, or prison.

Choose not to answer

As a potential school board member, we have to follow the current laws or risk losing substantial amounts of federal funding. If these decisions were returned to the state this question would be easier to answer.
