What is the function of the local school board?

The school board is responsible for creating the vision for the school district, oversight and accountability of the administration and putting in place policies that help students learn and teachers instruct. I am committed to fulfilling a school board trustee’s responsibility of oversight of our administration. Our administration must shift the focus to prioritizing the support of our teachers and students to keep CISD’s Tradition of Excellence. And as a Chapter 49 (Robin Hood) designated district, we have to be mindful to assure budget expenditures are spent wisely and appropriately. Responsible board oversight is vital to identifying and eliminating wasteful spending. Lastly, any policy that is passed must benefit all students.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

Our Executive Director of Curriculum and Instruction reports directly to our Superintendent. The Superintendent serves at the will of the School Board. The School Board is an elected body representing the voters in the district. So therefore, the voters have the ultimate right to set, determine and/or challenge curriculum used in our school district.

Please rate in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Strongly Agree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Parents are responsible at the age of parents discretion.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe that the only way to the Father(God) is through a relationship with Jesus Christ. I believe we are all sinners and need God's forgiveness. I believe Jesus desires to have a personal relationship with each one of us. I believe that the Bible is Gods Holy Word. I believe that God is a God of love and grace. When we confess our sins to Him, he is faithful to forgive. Because of all that Jesus has done in my life, I desire to serve Him and honor Him through serving my family and my community.

Why are you running for this office?

With two children currently in the district, I want to continue my service to the community in this capacity as I believe it is my civic duty. I have a consistent demonstrated passion to serve the youth in this community. Over the last decade, I have mentored, coached and taught hundreds of Southlake’s children in various youth programs. I’ve served a seven-year tenure on the Board of Directors for Dragon Youth Football, served as Odyssey of the Mind Volunteer Coach and am currently the President of the North Texas Football League. I believe CISD’s commitment to excellence in academics, athletics, the arts, programs for gifted and talented students and children with learning differences makes CISD the best school district in the state of Texas. Continuous improvement in all of these categories is possible and necessary to ensure the best and brightest future for our kids and our district.

A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Strongly Disagree

Which of the 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code is your highest priority?

Parents will be full partners with educators in the education of their children.

What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?

Holy Bible, John Adams (biography by David McCullough),Lincoln on Leadership: Executive Strategies for Tough Times (by Donald T Phillips),Churchill on Leadership: Executive Success in the Face of Adversity (by Steven F Hayward),Jefferson: Architect of American Liberty (by John B Boles)

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

My qualifications for this position were developed over many years working in the public service sector and serving the youth in this community. As a career public servant and leader in the aviation industry, I bring over 30 years of capital planning and budget experience having managed large airport infrastructure programs across the nation. In addition, as a member on two local program boards, I will bring an immediate understanding and respect for the governance aspect of board participation, placing particular emphasis on the importance of open and transparent communication. Finally, having led numerous youth athletic and academic teams in this community, I have worked directly with hundreds of CISD students and understand the importance of building relationships with parents to instill trust.

Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?

Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

Knowledge is power and I firmly believe providing our kids with a quality education is the best way to equip them to become leaders, innovators, and visionaries as they grow up and embark on the next chapters of their lives. I know what it takes to run an efficient and effective operation. But, I’m also a dad. And as your voice on the CISD School Board, I will never stop fighting to ensure our budget and operations are managed soundly and responsibly, our practices are conducted transparently, and our student’ best interests are at the forefront of everything we do. I am committed to ensuring our outstanding teachers receive the support and resources they need, our parents’ voices are heard and our students have access to the best education possible.
