What is the function of the local school board?
One of the roles of a school board member is to set policy. Currently, the school board sets the policy regarding the rights or privileges an employee organization has within the district. There are 7 committees that board members can join. Work with the yearly budget which affects health care and teacher pay.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
Encourage Decision-Making That Includes Taxpayers And Teachers. Too many times the voices of the staff, students, and community have not been heard. Our voices matter and we should have that voice to be included in the decision making for our Districts and schools. I believe that Board members should have the authority to vote on the curriculum but have input from teachers and other local leaders from the State. Federal Government should not be involved.

Why are you running for this office?
I am an educator, not a politician.I am a former employee of Northside Independent School District, where I worked with elementary grade level students. My passion has always been education. I believe and know all children can have the future they want and I teach to make sure they can have those opportunities. As residents of District 5, we all have a strong commitment to our community including our schools. I know that many parents feel that once they drop off their children at school their involvement in their children’s education ends. I’m convinced it's time for all of us to work together and let your voice be heard. The way our district can be even more successful is if everyone's voice is heard.
A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Never.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
Students Come Before Politics All of us want to see our community flourish. Your voice will always matter because as a member of the NISD Board of Trustees in District 5 I will make every effort to work for you. Together we can restore education to be the best it can be for our students. ? We see education evolving often without any involvement of faculty, students, and citizens. We should welcome participation of all interested in the process. It is important that students are getting the quality education they truly deserve. However in recent years I have witnessed that those who are the most interested in education - teachers and students have less chance of being involved. It's time for everyone to stand up for the future of children.
