What is the function of the local school board?
School boards are a function of governance not management. The board's primary responsibilities are to hire/fire the Superintendent and pass the budget. With that said, the trustees should act as a team in conjunction with the Superintendent, having a clear vision for the school district and community. Strong schools, equal, strong communities. Oversight, especially regarding curriculum and finance are paramount. Every child is entitled to an equal, biased free education and the tax payors should feel confident their tax dollars are being spent in the most appropriate and efficient manor possible.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
We have a political system that guarantees local control. While I understand the need to quantify equity in education via State TEKS, we must continue to fight for local accountability versus state and federal mandates.
Please rate in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Why are you running for this office?
We have a great community, a great school district and a great group of trustees. I have been blessed by all. Growing up in Humble, my father always said, “if you call it home, leave it better than you found it.” I believe we are and will continue to accomplish that. When I ran in 2011, my basic premise was “I am passionate about education, passionate about kids and passionate about this community.” Ten years later, that has not changed. People want to live here and want their kids to attend our schools. We need trustees who understand the impacts of growth, have a vision for future needs, understand school finance, and who are not afraid to make those tough decisions. I am that person.
A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.
