Education

What is the function of the local school board?

I believe the main purpose of the school board is to establish priorities that reflect the consensus of the community, district staff, and parents while ensuring students are receiving the best education possible. The board achieves this purpose through their range of responsibilities including adopting a balanced budget, issuing interim financial reports, managing the school calendar, negotiating contracts, approving curriculum materials, and closing or constructing schools.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

Referencing Objective 1 of the Texas Education Code, "parents will be full partners with educators in the education of their children-" I think parents, teachers, and board members should collaborate together to set curriculum and determine the resources used in that curricula.

Please rate in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

Mathematics, American History, Language Arts, Information Technology, Personal Finances, Art & Music, Science, Physical Fitness, Foreign Language,

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

Our state should participate in the nationwide Common Core standards for high-school graduation.

Strongly Disagree

Schools should use Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum and resources to teach emotions, values, and relationships.

Neutral

I support the teaching of the 1619 Project emphasizing slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Strongly Disagree

When students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Agree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Agree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

I believe parents hold that responsibility first. However, within school, sometime between 9-12th grade is when it should be taught.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Human anatomy/reproductive system Contraceptive methods Abstinence Consent Physical and emotional health outcomes stages of pregnancy and fetal development

Values

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student. All issues on this subject should be referred to the parents of the student.

Strongly Agree

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Neutral

Teachers should not use alternative names and pronouns without parental permission.

Strongly Agree

Therapy for children who have unwanted same-sex attraction should be banned.

No Answer

I support allowing students to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms, and to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I believe in respecting and tolerating everyone's beliefs, as long as people's beliefs do not bring harm to anyone and are nonviolent.

Qualifications

Why are you running for this office?

I came to the realization that the only way to truly make a difference is to step up and get involved, which is why I am running for Plano Board of Trustees, Place 3. I know that every policy, law, rule, and regulation put in place has the greatest impact on the wellbeing of the students and their future. A wise woman said, “whoever controls the education of our children, controls the future.” It is time that we made sure today’s students still have a future filled with the same freedoms, opportunities, and liberties of the generations before them. My goal is to ensure that every student receives an even better education than I did. As a School Board Trustee, I pledge to make sure the needs of students and teachers are met while doing my due diligence to either maintain the current tax rate or lower it at the next budget cycle by being fiscally responsible.

A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Neutral

Which of the 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code is your highest priority?

Objective 1 & Objective 5: Objective 1: Parents will be full partners with educators in the education of their children. Objective 5: Educators will prepare students to be thoughtful, active citizens who have an appreciation for the basic values of our state and national heritage and who can understand and productively function in a free enterprise society.

What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?

The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli (Tim Parks translation), The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, Freakonomics by Steven D. Levitt & Stephen J. Dubner, Breaking Cover by Michele Rigby Assad, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I attended 1st through 12th grade in Plano Schools. I received a great education and foundation for my future. I went on to graduate from the University of Oklahoma with a double major in International Business and Marketing and a minor in Mandarin Chinese. I also spent a semester abroad in Hong Kong. Connecting with people is an inherent specialty of mine. Relationship building carries a strong presence in every role I have held. From banking, volunteer work, serving on a board for a Young Professional nonprofit that assisted foster children in the North Texas area with education resources, connecting with elementary school children as a Junior Achievement volunteer, event coordinating and marketing, etc. - the diversity of my positions enables me to connect with individuals from all backgrounds.

Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?

Conservative

Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.

Refer to my voting record

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I will bring a fresh new voice and positive open-minded attitude to the table. I am willing to take the time to actively listen to the community. I have already started engaging in discussions with members of our community to learn and understand their concerns and praises regarding Plano ISD. I plan to continue these discussions if elected to the Plano Board of Trustee, Place 3.

2nd Amendment

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Agree

Other Important Issues

Do you support mandatory vaccinations for children attending public school?

I believe individuals should have the freedom to choose whether or not they want to receive vaccinations.
