What is the function of the local school board?
To oversee the running of the school district. I said to oversee. Not to actually run the school district. The board hires the superintendent. He or she runs the school district, and all those this person hires underneath she or he to help run it. The board has a function of overseeing the economic running of the district, and this takes a little more expertise. Experts are hired, but if they go wrong it is important someone on the board can see this.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
This ultimate authority resides in the board, but the superintendent & staff should handle these decision on a day to day business. The superintendent is the like the CEO and the school board is like the board of directors.

I will go with my upbringing. 6th graders were shown boys/girls films on the human body. 8th graders talk about pregnancy, and how to avoid it. 10th graders get re-emphasized instruction on pregnancy and how to avoid it. Other than those 3 hours, it is the parents responsibility.

I have faith. I believe in God, Christian or whatever label they have now. Faith is not weakness, it is incredible strength. I wish more could come to understand this.
Why are you running for this office?
The school is for the kids. Not the unions, the politicians, the contractors or the teachers. These are all important, but they are not the reason for schools. I have seen too many examples of the wrong stakeholders being emphasized to the detriment of our children.

There is no available track record. I am fiscally conservative and socially moderate. There are few absolutes. Make the decision based on what is best for all stakeholders, starting with the kids.
