Right to Life

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

No Answer

iVoterGuide Notes:
  • Candidate notified iVoterGuide that the intended answer to this question should have been ‘Neutral’. She wished to include this answer: "Abortion is a sensitive issue and people can hold good-faith views on all sides. I believe that government should be kept out of the matter, leaving the question to each person for their conscientious consideration." This change and statement were not considered during panel evaluations.

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.

Strongly Agree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.

Religious Liberty

School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.

Students should not be allowed to pray in school.

Strongly Disagree

What is the function of the local school board?

The function of the local school Board is oversight of education. Through this role, the Katy ISD school Board serves the district's children in overseeing the highest quality education. As education value is typically tied to a community's real estate market, the Board also serves the community's entire taxpayer base by implementing policies that protect and increase their home values. The Katy INDEPENDENT school district Board of Trustees have the exclusive power and duty to govern and oversee the management of public schools of the district. The sovereign power of the district has been forgotten, tossed aside and diminished in the last few years. As a KISD board trustee, I will ensure the Board remembers and retains its delegated power and duty to its constituents and will answer to those electors. A Board is beholden to its community and I will bring back that function and that value to this precious community.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

This is an interesting question. Currently, the Board designates the Superintendent as the curriculum leader in charge of establishing procedures for the design and delivery of the curriculum. Without question, the level of education in Katy ISD is well above par compared to other districts in Texas and even the rest of the country. I don't necessarily propose changes to the process for setting cirriculum or wish to undermine the work of our amazing cirriculum coordinators, however I do think there is one point we could improve upon. This is giving teachers more autonomy in their cirriculum choices. I have heard from many secondary level English teachers that they are not permitted to teach the books they love. If one of our highly qualified teachers wishes to teach a particular piece of literature, as long as this is approved it could only be good for the students to see this teacher's natural talents shine through their passion for this/these particular book(s).

Please rate in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning

American History (also World History) Language Arts Mathematics Science Art & Music Physical Fitness Social Emotional Learning Foreign Language Information Technology Political Activism Personal Finances

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

Our state should participate in the nationwide Common Core standards for high-school graduation.

Strongly Disagree

Schools should use Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum and resources to teach emotions, values, and relationships.

iVoterGuide Notes:
  • Candidate notified iVoterGuide that the intended answer to this question should have been ‘Agree’. This change was not considered during panel evaluations.

I support the teaching of the 1619 Project emphasizing slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.

Strongly Disagree

When students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.

Strongly Agree

Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.

Strongly Agree

No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.

Strongly Agree

Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?

Parents, guardians and caregivers of children are the only responsible parties. School districts, in partnership with these parents and guardians, may assist in teaching sexucal education to children but this should always be a subject that is by permission from the parents/guardians only. Sexuality is an incredibly sensitive, moral, religious and personal subject matter and school districts may only become involved when deemed appropriate and requested by those ultimately responsible for children, the parents. When schools have permission to teach sex ed to students, 5th grade is an appropriate time to share with children.

If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex

Physical and emotional health outcomes contraceptive methods consent abstinence human anatomy/the reproductive system

No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student. All issues on this subject should be referred to the parents of the student.

Strongly Agree

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.

Teachers should not use alternative names and pronouns without parental permission.

Therapy for children who have unwanted same-sex attraction should be banned.

Strongly Agree

iVoterGuide Notes:
  • Candidate notified iVoterGuide that the intended answer to this question should have been ‘Neutral’. This change was not considered during panel evaluations.

I support allowing students to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms, and to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.

Strongly Disagree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a deeply spiritual person with beliefs rooted in judeo-christian values. Beyond that, I would prefer to keep additional information about my spiritual beliefs personal. My moral compass is straight as an arrow; I do not compromise my values for any personal or ideological gain. Ever.

Why are you running for this office?

I am running for KISD School Board to put the "Independent" back in "ISD." As a parent of young children in the school district, I have stepped up to demand accountability and action from our current school board and administrators in putting the education and well-being of the children first, before politics, personal ideology or outside influence. I have been actively involved in extracirricular activities with other parents of children in the district and I stepped up to unite our voices as one. We demand parents' choice in both cirriculum and health be restored. For any medical, sensitive or personal decisions, parents must have complete freedom to make their own choices for their children without restrictions or mandates from the district or the state or federal government. Regardless of these choices, all children in the district must have equal access to public education. We MUST do what is best for Katy ISD and its children, not what is in current political favor.

A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Strongly Disagree

Which of the 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code is your highest priority?

OBJECTIVE 1: Parents will be full partners with educators in the education of their children. We MUST encourage the parents and the community to be involved with the education of this district's children. Children live balanced lives with much of their time spent in education and much of their time spent at home. Without parent partnerships, only half of the equation is balanced. This objective goes beyond parents and implores extended family, neighbors and the community at large to be involved.

What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?

My favorite book, The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas. The quintessential battle of right and wrong. Anything Orwell, Animal Farm, 1984. Anything Ayn Rand, The Fountainhead, Atlas Shrugged. These works helped me understand the importance of the individual over the collective. All works of Jane Austen.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

I have been in a corporate finance role for 20 years. This experience will help me serve this district as I take a deep dive into the financials and make sure we are using every penny of our taxpayer money wisely. I have been a public policy analyst for 10 years. This experience, learning about roles of governments vs. people, and providing input on public policy will ensure I understand the power and limits of the role of a trustee. As a mother of three young children, I carry the voice of parents in the district wanting an exceptional educational experience for their children.

Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?

Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.

I am politically independent with unwavering conservative values. I have an extensive record researching, anaylzing and providing insight on public policy issues. While I may find some shared values in different political parties, I am not beholden to any one group or party. I believe unabashadly in the importance of individualism, and have only one master when it comes to making decisions on anything regarding public policy, whether social, economic, etc., the Constitution of the United States of America. This, combined with a thorough understanding of world history provides all the insight one will ever need to help shape public policy and provide intelligent insight in any area of government. Government ONLY exists to protect the invidivual natural rights of each citizen. This goes for any government, even the school districts.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I will work hard to be the voice of you, your children, your property values and our community on the Board of Trustees.

2nd Amendment

Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.

Strongly Agree

Other Important Issues

Do you support mandatory vaccinations for children attending public school?

Emphatically No. Medical decisions are individual and are reserved for the parents, the children and their medical professional of choice to make. School districts have no right to mandate medical choices for children.
