The function of the local school board is to work as a team to promote student academic success by setting a clear vision for the district, with outcomes that can be measured. The board is also responsible for hiring and evaluating the superintendent's performance. Another function of the local school board is to communicate with the public its challenges and progress using multiple forms of two-way communication. This is very critical for promoting and maintaining the trust of citizens. The school board provides local governance, leadership, advocacy, district operations, and approves a budget. The school board is accountable for the well-being of each student, and ensures that students receive the necessary tools to thrive successfully.

The curriculum is a huge factor in determining successful learning outcomes for all students. A rigorous and challenging curriculum goes hand-in-hand with differentiated instructional practices, where teachers adjust instruction in order to meet the learning style needs of all students. Teachers should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula, along with input from the community and administrators who specialize in curriculum development. The curriculum must meet the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills, which are the State standards that tell what a student knows, understands, and should be able to do.

Parents are ultimately responsible for teaching sexual education to children, because parents teach their family values about sex, whereas a school cannot teach family morals and values. I am sensitive to the concerns of parents for their children; especially when it comes to sexual education. When sexual education is taught in school at an appropriate age chosen by parents, the primary objective must include abstinence as a choice, one's personal safety, emotional well-being, and the consequences of risky behavior.

As of yet, the Texas Education Agency does not have a requirement to teach sex education, but does provide some guidelines for districts to use should they decide to teach sexual education. I support the Texas Education Agency's decision about sexual education. If elected as a board member, I will work together with members to ensure that TEA's guidelines are followed, and will base my decision about sex education on what is in the best interest of our children.

Why are you running for this office?
2020 was a gamechanger in the field of education. COVID-19 encroached upon our lives unexpectedly, and turned our society upside down. I decided to run for the Frisco ISD Board of Trustees mostly because of how the dynamics of teaching have changed. 47% of our students are learning virtually, while 53% remain in-person. This has created a critical problem for Frisco ISD to solve. I am strongly committed to serve my community and provide a unique and holistic approach to the current virtual and in-person learning challenges, and look forward to collaborating with Trustees to meet the learning and emotional needs of all our students.

All 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code promote a quality education for all students in the State of Texas, and are equally important. Of the 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code, my highest priority is objective 5, which states that educators will prepare students to be thoughtful, active citizens who have an appreciation for the basic values of our state and national heritage and who can understand and productively function in a free enterprise society.
What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?
I read many books for both enjoyment and mental balance and wellness. The Bible has had the most powerful impact on my view of life. It gives me perspective about how to live peacefully with others, while treating people with love and respect.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
The 23 years of experience working with young people, parents, teachers, administrators, staff, and leaders qualifies me to hold this office. I was an elementary education teacher for several years and earned certification in the state of Maryland, Colorado, Virginia and Texas. My experience includes specialized training in: - Literacy - Alternative Assessments - Multiple Intelligences - Dimensions of Learning - ELA-E Certification I’ve worked in urban and suburban school districts, and have consistently raised the standards for student learning in each of my classrooms. I worked tirelessly in the classroom to ensure that 90% of all my first graders were proficient readers and writers prior to advancing to second grade. Some of my class sizes reached a capacity of thirty-five students without the help of an assistant. In order to meet the needs all my students, which included ESL students and students with special learning needs, I provided free tutoring.

I am conservative and independent. I vote for who I believe is best fit for office. I have voted for both Republican and Democrat candidates. I am non-partisan. I do not impose my political views on students, but rather, I allow them to make their own decisions, while teaching all students how to become successful and well-informed citizens.

I have lived in the city of Frisco for almost nine years, and want to give my time, services and experiences to make a positive impact in the lives of our future generation. I want voters to know that I am committed to making decisions that are in the best interest of all our children. I support family values and choices. Parents know what is best for their children, and I want to find ways to support them by providing ongoing communication and transparency. Parental involvement and engagement is critical at maximizing student success. I look forward to knowing parents by name and serving their needs.

No, I do not support mandatory vaccinations for children attending public school. Parents must have the choice to decide what is best for their child. This is not a decision that I feel comfortable enforcing as a requirement for our children to receive access to a quality education. Parents and legal guardians are best suitable to make this decision on behalf of the well-being of their children. I trust the decisions of parents and legal guardians.
