Party Primary Election Voting History for Tricia Elaine Quintero during time of residence in district and/or at current address:
**Voter history is not considered during panel evaluations.
Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not be a resource for instruction or services in the school.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
School districts should be able to use taxpayer money for lobbying the state legislature.
School districts should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
At school, students should be able to speak freely and civilly about matters of conscience and faith, including Christianity.
Students should not be allowed to pray in school.
What is the function of the local school board?
A school board's primary responsibilities include: Setting goals and monitoring progress; adopting policies tailored to the district's needs; hiring and firing the superintendent; adopting a budget and setting a tax rate; and effectively communicating with constituents. In terms of effective communication, the Board can and should do a better job. For instance, the Board’s policy manual dictates that: “Board members are encouraged to participate in community activities as liaisons between the community and the school district. When doing so, board members are expected to...Support board decisions.” Let’s be honest: No one agrees with everything their local elected officials do. Especially not me (which is why I’m running!) To require school board members -- who are elected by voters -- to support every Board decision when speaking with their constituents is wrong. Those trustees should be free to speak their mind and give their opinion on any issue. Voters deserve as much.
Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?
The ultimate authority rests with voters. To quote the Texas Constitution: "All political power is inherent in the people, and all free governments are founded on their authority, and instituted for their benefit...they have at all times the inalienable right to alter, reform or abolish their government in such manner as they may think expedient."
Please rate in order the following priorities in relation to the role of a K-12 public school (omitting any that do not apply): Mathematics, Information Technology, Science, Political Activism, Personal Finances, Gender Identity, Physical Fitness, American History, Critical Race Theory, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Sexuality, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
Mathematics, Science, Personal Finances, Information Technology, Physical Fitness, American History, Language Arts, Art & Music, Vocational Learning, Foreign Language, Social Emotional Learning
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Our state should participate in the nationwide Common Core standards for high-school graduation.
Schools should use Social Emotional Learning (SEL) curriculum and resources to teach emotions, values, and relationships.
I support the teaching of the 1619 Project emphasizing slavery and racism as the foundation of American history.
When students are taught courses such as Comprehensive Sex Ed (CSE) or Social Emotional Learning (SEL), they must opt-in with written parental permission.
Parents are the ultimate authority in their child’s education and should be able to freely pursue whatever educational options they deem best for their child.
No healthcare diagnosis or treatment, whether mental, reproductive, or otherwise, should be given to a child without first receiving written consent from the parent.
Who is responsible for teaching sexual education to children, and what is the appropriate age when it should be taught?
Parents have the primary responsibility for teaching their children sexual education. Public schools can play an important supporting role with parental consent, but moms and dads should be in charge. High school is the most appropriate time to teach students sexual education.
If you support the teaching of Sex Ed, please answer the following question: Sexual education should include these topics (list all that apply and add your own, if needed) -- Physical and emotional health outcomes; contraceptive methods; consent; abstinence; sexual orientation and gender identity; human anatomy/the reproductive system; abortion methods and side effects; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; sex acts and pleasures of sex
Abstinence;human anatomy/the reproductive system; stages of pregnancy and fetal development; consent; and physical and emotional health outcomes. Other related topics are best left to be broached by parental figures and family.
No school official should be involved in the sexual transitioning of a student. All issues on this subject should be referred to the parents of the student.
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality that is necessary for our system of limited government.
Teachers should not use alternative names and pronouns without parental permission.
Therapy for children who have unwanted same-sex attraction should be banned.
I support allowing students to use public restrooms, showers, and changing rooms, and to participate in athletic competition based on the gender with which they identify instead of biological sex.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and I seek after him daily. While I am far from perfect, He is my rock and my guide.
Why are you running for this office?
I'm running for school board because our district's students and parents deserve a higher level of achievement, lower taxes, and better fiscal management. Dripping Springs ISD is at an inflection point. Enrollment growth is accelerating and classroom needs are changing. It's critical that our district's leadership address these demands while also safeguarding the family budget. If elected, I'll fight for lower taxes and less debt. Right now, Dripping Springs ISD owes a total of $462 million or more than $60,000 owed for every student currently enrolled. That's too much borrowing. We need our district to focus more on needs and less on wants.
A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.
Which of the 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code is your highest priority?
My highest priority is OBJECTIVE 5: Educators will prepare students to be thoughtful, active citizens who have an appreciation for the basic values of our state and national heritage and who can understand and productively function in a free enterprise society.
What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?
The Bible has had the most profound impact on my life. Its pages provide the foundation for my worldview, and the basis for my seeking to be a servant leader. Other books that have influenced my thinking: Economics in One Lesson; Atlas Shrugged; and Animal Farm.
What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?
My experience includes serving as the chair for Hays CISD Facilities and Bond Oversight Committee, being a regular volunteer at my church, and serving on the Student Health Advisory Committee, or SHAC.
Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?
Please defend your answer to the previous question by referencing your publicly available track record.
While serving as the chair for Hays CISD's Facilities and Bond Oversight Committee, my colleagues and I uncovered unscrupulous behavior on the part of a vendor and elevated the matter to the Board, such that his company fired. I also helped eliminate waste, fraud, abuse in the bond proposals that my Committee recommended to the Board.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I'm a proud wife, mother, community volunteer, and longtime resident of Hays County. My husband and I have five beautiful children--four of which either currently attend or will soon enroll in a Dripping Springs ISD school. I have a personal stake in seeing Dripping Springs schools succeed. And I would be honored to earn your vote!
Teachers who are licensed to carry should be allowed to carry guns at school.
Do you support mandatory vaccinations for children attending public school?
Absolutely not. I strongly disagree with mandatory vaccinations for schoolchildren. The choice to vaccinate or not must reside with the parents.
