Education

What is the function of the local school board?

Functions of a local school board is to determine school district’s mission and purpose and ensuring policies are in place so that the purpose and mission are followed. The school board should be responsible for selecting the Superintendent. School board members should ensure effective organizational planning and effective management of resources. School board members should maintain accountability and transparency to the community they serve.

Who should have the authority to set curriculum and determine resources used in those curricula?

The curriculum should be set by teachers and the school board with input from parents. Resources used in the curricula should be determined by the school board.

Parents should be responsible for teaching sexual education to children. Qualifications

Why are you running for this office?

I want to serve on the DSISD school board because I believe that education is top priority for our students and not social issues. Equal education should be provided to all students and educating our students should be the focus of our school system. I also believe that fiscal responsibility and transparency of school board decisions is very important. Parents and members of our community should be aware and involved in what decisions are made that could impact them. Spending needs to be controlled so that taxpayers do not have such a large tax burden. Many of our community are retired and it can be difficult for them when taxes are out of control.

A candidate's personal moral values should not be relevant when considering a candidacy for elective office.

Disagree

Which of the 11 objectives specified in the Texas Education Code is your highest priority?

A well-balanced and appropriate curriculum will be provided to all students. Through that curriculum, students will be prepared to succeed in a variety of postsecondary activities, including employment and enrollment in institutions of higher education.

What books have had the most profound impact on your view of life?

(Did not answer)

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

Over the past 24 years I have served the community in many ways and through many different organizations. If elected I will be dedicated to ensure the best education is available to all students. As a CPA financial responsibility will be a top priority. I have observed the increase in the school system from the time my son entered kindergarten until he graduated from Dripping Springs High School making me familiar with the system and the needs of the schools and community.

Considering all issues (social, economic, national security, etc.), which of these best describes you?
