Right to Life

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Agree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Strongly Agree

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

To prevent the death of the mother and in cases of rape and incest against a minor. There is no question rape and incest are heartbreaking tragedies and crimes – ones that bring deep emotional, physical and spiritual pain. Lawmakers have a responsibility to not only ensure we have tough, aggressive laws that help to stop these kinds of violent crimes against women, but also resources available to victims and their families to help them cope. I believe abortion is a sin against God, but in the event that a victim of rape or incest has an abortion the answer is to love them.

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

I have been a strong advocate for comprehensive reform to overhaul both our Medicare and Social Security systems to make them viable for the long-term while modernizing the programs to meet the needs of today’s retirees. While in the US House of Representatives, I proposed changes to Medicare and Social Security but they would not have impacted anyone currently receiving benefits or those paying into the programs. If we do nothing beneficiaries will see automatic cuts when the trusts run out of money. Or, worse still, the programs will cease to exist – putting current and future generations of retirees at great risk. As a U.S. Senator, I will be a fierce advocate for tackling Medicare and Social Security reform today instead of continuing to kick the can down the road. It’s too important to Wyoming seniors and future generations to not fix these critical programs.

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

Cutting government spending and reducing our national debt are among my very top priorities in running for the US Senate. As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I stood up to moderate leadership of my own party to push back against overspending. In the U.S. Senate, I will continue to be a fierce budget hawk and work tirelessly to cut spending and reduce the national debt. I support proposals to reduce spending across the board, including Senator Mike Enzi’s ‘Penny Plan.’

Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?

There's no question the high cost of college education is adversely impacting students of all ages. An important first step to remedying this to have the private sector take over the student loan market, giving students more options and driving down tuition costs through a more competitive market. I also support continuation of the GI Bill which provides educational assistance to service members, veterans and their dependents.

Religious Liberty

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

I believe in upholding, and strict adherence to, the U.S. Constitution. The First Amendment reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof..." To me this Amendment, and the legal principle of separation of church and state, are paramount to upholding and protecting our religious freedoms.

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Access to adequate and affordable health insurance continues to be a major concern of Wyoming citizens, and a significant challenge for small businesses. I support a number of measures that would help drive down costs while improving access to quality care and services, including repealing and replacing Obamacare, improving transparency in healthcare and prescription drug pricing, expanding opportunities for cross-state pooling for small businesses, associations and their employees, members and families; and fostering innovation and advancements in telehealth.

National Security

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

I believe our national defense must be the strongest in the world. This sends an important message to friends and foes of both our military capability and are strong commitment to eradicating terrorism around the globe. To accomplish this goal, we must improve and expand information sharing and collective security efforts. We must do everything we can to limit the production of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction. We must also ensure our local, state and federal law enforcement are collaborating and have the resources they need to thwart domestic terrorism attempts. Key to this is ensuring our borders are secure at every turn. At the same time, I have raised concerns over the extended presence of U.S. troops abroad without a clear mission. President Trump has done a fantastic job in showcasing our military might with strategic missions that limit the use of troops on the ground, such as the killing of Qasem Soleimani.

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Strongly Agree

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Strongly Agree

Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.

Strongly Agree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

I support comprehensive immigration reform that prioritizes the safety and security of U.S. citizens while providing a lawful path forward for legal immigrants. There is no question that immigrants are a part of our nation’s fabric and critical to our economy and core industries. However, our current system of immigration does not work for our nation or immigrants. I support President Trump’s efforts to build a wall along our southern border and to defund sanctuary cities. Until significant changes are made to improve our current immigration system, I do not support making any changes to our current levels or criteria for immigration.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Agree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I am a lifelong member of The Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod. I attend the Trinity Lutheran Church in Cheyenne, Wyoming. I am a strong Christian and my faith guides my decisions as a mother, friend, neighbor and public servant.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Very Conservative

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

During my eight years serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, I was proud to garner an A+ rating from the NRA and a 100% voting record with Right to Life. I signed and delivered on the ‘No New Tax Pledge’ and was a founding member of the House Freedom Caucus. I also opposed President Obama’s radical agenda more often than any other member of Congress. As a candidate for the U.S. Senate, I am proud to be endorsed by Gun Owners of America, Susan B. Anthony List, Club for Growth, Senate Conservatives Fund, FreedomWorks for America, Citizens United, Concerned Women for America, Protect Freedom PAC, Right Women PAC, National Association of Realtors as well as more than 30 current and former Members of Congress.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I have one daughter, Annaliese, son-in-law Will Cole, and grandson Doran Augustus Cole, affectionately known as Gus.

Criminal Justice

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

2nd Amendment

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

I'm a staunch defender of our 2nd Amendment Rights and am proud to have an earned an A+ Rating with the NRA during my time in the U.S. House of Representatives. American citizens have the fundamental right to own, carry, and use guns. I also believe in individual responsibility and that, as gun owners, the onus is on us to use them safely and responsibly.

Other Important Issues

I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.

Strongly Disagree

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Strongly Disagree

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

My top three legislative priorities will be: 1. Facilitating the Great American Comeback: We must reduce overly burdensome regulations on business, bring manufacturing and production of critical goods and services back to the US and continue pro-growth tax policies that enable the private sector to thrive. 2. Championing Domestic Energy Production: Among my top priorities are implementing recommendations of the President's Nuclear Fuel Working Group to revitalize domestic uranium mining; advancing the research and promotion of carbon capture technologies and coal-derived carbon products; enabling the export of Powder River Basin coal through western ports and ensuring fair, transparent and timely permitting processes within a regulatory framework that is responsive to industry. 3. Cutting Federal Spending: It is imperative we cut federal spending and reduce our staggering national debt which has direct and severe consequences for our economy, national security and policy decisions.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

Simply put, there is no place for racism in our society. Many people in our country are angry, frustrated and saddened right now. This is an important moment in our country. A moment where we must stand for justice. And to do so, we as Americans have a right to peacefully assemble and protest. However, we don’t have the right to destroy businesses and communities. And it doesn’t bring change. As Mahatma Gandhi said, "an eye for an eye makes the world blind.”
