Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
I believe that the act of abortion is unacceptable unless the life or health of the mother is endangered by her pregnancy or in cases where rape or incest is involved.
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
The Social Security Trust fund is in distress. The fiscal health of Social Security will have to be reformed in some way. We must, however, be very careful about how we reform Social Security as 50 million Americans currently depend on it. As such, I would oppose any reform that deprives people of the money and benefits that they have paid into for the majority of their working years. I strongly believe that we must work together to protect and preserve retirement income for all Americans and I am likewise committed to ensuring that workers and their families, are equally protected to receive the benefits they have worked so many years to attain. I also support the idea of giving younger Americans the option to have control of their retirement plans.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
I have long supported a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution to force the federal government to reign in its spending. There is waste, fraud, and abuse we must eliminate in addition to consolidating or getting rid of duplicative programs.
Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?
I support loan relief that allows highly educated and highly skilled individuals to work in lower paying public service jobs where they can make a difference in their communities. This is particularly important in Alaska where it can be difficult to attract and retain professionals in fields such as medicine and teaching. It is also important that the military offer student loan repayment. In addition, I support loan relief for individuals who have been defrauded by their institutions.
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Simply put, the separation of church and state means that government respects the right of individuals to worship how they choose. Although we generally try to keep religion separate from the public sphere, there is no denying that our nation was built by religious individuals drawing heavily on their religious principles. While I am committed to recognize the religious heritage of our country, I do respect the separation of church and state. In America, we must respect every citizen's faith tradition regardless of which faith they choose. Mean and women, currently and in the past, have fought and died to preserve freedom including freedom on religion. We mush recognize our country's rich religious heritage. America is one of the few countries in the world that truly has freedom of religion, and this precious right must continue to be preserved.
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
By repealing onerous one size fits all mandates from Obamacare and ensuring that our health care system is more accessible, affordable, and reliable by increasing competition as well as making insurance portable so coverage and care can cross state lines.
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
We must continue to target the finances, leadership, and recruitment capability of terrorist organizations worldwide. Additionally, we need to combat the factors that drive people to join terrorist organizations and undermine those who seek to radicalize Islam, by investing in education in their home countries, engaging with communities and their leaders to identify at-risk youth, and increasing opportunities for women.
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
We must fix the legal immigration process. As a country of immigrants, we fully understand the role our legal immigration process has in society. However, it is well past time that our legal immigration process moves from a system that focuses on extended family members and the luck of the draw, to a system that favors the economic needs of this country. Our immigration system must focus on the thousands of highly skilled foreign nationals seeking education, economic opportunity, and jobs that bolster our economy. For too long, we have been educating and training a highly skilled workforce only to lose them because of a clogged legal immigration process. Any form of legal immigration must consider the economic impact opening our borders has, especially when we have millions of workers who should not be displaced or disadvantaged by foreign workers.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
Federal law has regulated the sale and possession of firearms for decades. Any requirements must not infringe on an individual's right to keep and bear arms. I am a proud supporter of the Second Amendment and will fight to protect that right.
I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Any sort of discrimination if sought through violent means is a threat to domestic security. America's promise is one of equality and justice for everyone, but we haven't always lived up to these very worthy ideals. We’ve overcome much through America’s history, but more work is needed to achieve racial equality. America must do better. This is a difficult moment for our country; the road to creating a more perfect union is long, but if we work together, I am confident we can begin to make meaningful, lasting change. Next Congress, I look forward to working with my colleagues, as I have done throughout my career, on further legislation to bridge gaps between our nation's communities both in Alaska and across our great country.
