Right to Life

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Neutral

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Disagree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

No Answer

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

Women's reproductive health is critical. Abortion is settled law at the Supreme Court level. I am not interested in altering or changing it for Arizona. The decisions I would make with my husband of 27 years, in my home or in my doctor's office are for my household. Since I am a person of privilege, however, my faith teaches my not to sit in judgement of others who have different means than I do. In Arizona, it is critical that we do a better job of meeting the healthcare needs of our children once they are here, and of their mothers, who need postnatal care.

Economy

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Agree

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

States are required to function on a balanced yearly budget, so this question is not applicable to state legislative candidates. I have a track record of financial responsible as a grant administrator. We have state agencies that need major overhauls. The unemployment problems that are occuring at DES make it clear that serious investigations are necessary before any budgetary decisions can be made about cuts or allocations, as one example.

Religious Liberty

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Neutral

Governments should define marriage as between one man and one woman; no other definition of marriage should be legalized or supported with taxpayer or public funds.

Strongly Disagree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Disagree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

Yes

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

The United States was founded, in part, on the premise of flight from religious persecution. As a Christian, I have always felt comfortable practising my religion freely. As a public school educator, however, I need to leave my beliefs at the door, in service of my students. I am with Thomas Jefferson, who, in 1802, helped calm the Danbury Baptist Association when he wrote, "religion is a matter that solely lies between a man and his God, that he owes account to none other for his faith or his worship, that the legislative powers of government reach actions only, and not opinions... that their legislature should make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof. Thus building a wall of separation between church and state." There is nothing prohibiting students from asking me to pray for or with them. I am simply separated from imposing my beliefs upon them. I will carry this same principal from the classroom to the Arizona Capitol.

Healthcare

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

Arizona must stop junk insurance plans, surprise billing, lower the cost of medication and eliminate predatory bill collectors. The research is clear that what we are doing now is not working. When COVID-19 hit and one third of our work force suddenly found themselves without insurance, and facing a potential life threatening illness, it became clear that some sort of option, seperate from employer sponsored coverage must be available, accessible, and affordable. I don't know if an option to buy into medicare is the best first step toward this, since I am focused on Arizona policies, and this is a federal issue. I know the current Affordable Care Act options in Arizona are too limited, and expensive. I know union workers are concerned about loosing benefits they fought hard for. I know everyone wants to keep their doctors. What I don't hear is anyone saying they love their insurance company.

National Security

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

Neutral

Immigration

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Neutral

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Neutral

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Immigration reform is a federal issue. Arizona legislators have created costly problems for Arizona taxpayers by inserting themselves into legislation such as SB1070. As a state legislator, I will support strong trade agreements with Mexico to support our economy. I will work with our federal partners to advocate for strong border security that also encourages our ports of entry to move trucks quickly, as we know produce is currently rotting due to hours of wait time. My home town is on the southern border. The Krentz Ranch is less than an hour from the homestead I grew up on! I understand immigration and border security at the micro level. I still have family there. A day worker program that existed thirty years ago is desperately needed to improve the economies of these small towns.

Education

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Agree

Values

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

Strongly Disagree

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Agree

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised Presbyterian, and continue with my Christian values to this day. As an educator, however, I strongly believe in the separation of church and state in governance. My relationship with my Lord is the strongest one I have. It guides my daily decisions in being kind, forgiving, patient, generous, and humble. I don't, however, expect anyone else to have the same values and beliefs as I do. I try not to judge others, and I consider love of all mankind to be the highest value of all.

Qualifications

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

Moderate

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

Currently, 75% of Arizona Corporations pay the minimum tax liability of $50.00, while the average resident pays increasing amounts for such things as registering their vehicle each year. There are financially responsible adjustments, that will not negatively impact residents, but provide a more robust education system for our youngest residents, better healthcare options for our elders, and stop squeezing the budgets of our families in the middle - like asking large corporations to pitch in their fair share. I fully support the second amendment, and yet, I will not turn a blind eye to the fact that we have five year olds we expect to routinely practice for active shooters to enter their classrooms. My family owns guns, responsibly! I grew up on the US, Mexico border. I understand the true nature of safe, secure and humane border security that also ensures we continue a thriving trade industry with Arizona's largest partner from living it as the daughter of business owners.

What education or experience qualifies you to hold the office for which you seek election?

As a federal grant administrator I have managed $5 million school safety budgets that required collaboration with the Departments of Justice, Health and Human Services and Education. I know how to cut through bureaucratic red tap, to actually accomplish the job of meeting the needs of children and families. As the assistant principal of a middle school with over 900 students, I am well acquainted with playground bullies; and how to identify and address problems to restore peace. Finally, as a third generation Arizonan, mom, grandmother and wife, I love this state and Her people. I am not a politician. I am concerned about the empty promises of the past forty years. I did not intend to seek this position! I attempted to work with my seated legislators to address the needs I saw. They were too busy courting lobbyists and corporate donors. Once I entered the campaign, hundreds of conversations with my neighbors led me to understand others are as tired of this as I am.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

No and no.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

I encourage every voter to consider candidates for their values, not the party they are affiliated with. Ask yourself: can you access your current elected official; are you better off now than you were two or four years ago; and what do you want your life to look like two or four years from now? I am accessible via my social media and website. Please reach out. We may not agree on every issue, but I bet we share many values. Give me the opportunity to earn your vote. I am not a politician. I am an Arizona. I want to make life better for my grandchildren, and for you. Let's decide together what that looks like.

Judicial Philosophy

I support the use of Sharia law as a basis for legislation and judicial decisions in the United States.

No Answer

Criminal Justice

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Agree

2nd Amendment

Should teachers be allowed to carry guns at school?

No

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

As gun owners, we supports 2A! Women, children and POC are impacted by gun violence, through suicide, domestic violence incidents, and accidental deaths more often. Common sense, bipartisan reforms can reduce these numbers without infringing on the rights of lawful gun owners. Growing up in the rural Southwest, 4-H and FFA allowed me to learn to properly use and respect weapons. We need to allow children and families more opportunities to safely learn about guns today.

Other Important Issues

People should be able to vote without photo identification.

Neutral

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Neutral

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Agree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

1. Arizona has been labeled one of the most legally corrupt states. I will codify a code of ethics for elected officials. This will allow us to more quickly and efficiently do the work of the people of Arizona, without the influence of outside interests! 2. We spend more than ever before on education, with worse results. All agencies (public, private and charter) receiving taxpayer funding must follow the same transparency and accountability rules. 3. Every single tax credit enacted over the past thirty years needs to be evaluated to determine whether it is serving its intended purpose for the residents of Arizona. If it's not, a sunset needs to be placed on it to be eliminated. All future tax credits need to have an automatic review process, to ensure the community is receiving the return on their investment they were promised.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

According to the FBI it is a threat. I utilize data and facts to drive my decisions, so if the FBI labeling racially motivated violent extremism as domestic terrorism this is data I will listen to (Source NPR 2-10-2020). How we will actual address the violence, on a state level, must include a commitment from all parties to sit together and actually hear each other's concerns and solutions. Since I am a Clean Elections Candidate, I don't accept Corporate or PAC money. My only commitment is to the voters of my district. They are the people I will invite to the table to make decisions, along with the stakeholders impacted. In this case that might include law enforcement, people of color, people from each income level, educators, mental health professionals, business owners and faith leaders.
