Right to Life

Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.

Strongly Disagree

Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.

Strongly Agree

I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.

Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?

We all have equal birthrights. Your birthright includes a right to privacy, not because of where you were born, but because you are human and all humans have that birthright. Your right of privacy covers your medical records, including conversations with and treatments by your medical provider. If anyone is required to disclose that information, then no one has a right to privacy, and your medical records become public information. If the right to privacy is secured, then abortion may not be disclosed, and a ban on abortion is not enforceable in any straightforward manner. I support all efforts to reduce the frequency of abortion, including advocacy of abstinence, private distribution of contraceptives, promotion of adoption, and private support of young mothers.

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.

Strongly Disagree

Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.

Strongly Agree

How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?

No such guarantee is possible. The Social Security Trust Fund contains only 20% of the amount required to be solvent. It was never planned to have a sound actuarial basis. Most contributions have been spent on retiree benefits instead of investment in the trust fund for current workers. The system envisions workers supporting retirees forever. It is not possible to guarantee that future generations will continue this system. We favor a transition to a voluntary system as soon as possible, recognizing that the victims of this scheme may need the help of, once again, voluntary associations of people with a sense of responsibility to their local communities

What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?

The goal is not to balance the budget, but to have a surplus and reduce the national debt. In billions of dollars, reduce the military budget to 50, saving 583, abolish Departments of Health and Human Services, Education, Housing and Urban Development, Homeland Security, Energy, and NASA, saving 335, and abolish Medicare and Medicaid, saving about 750. That total reduction of about 1.4 trillion dollars would be enough to create a small surplus in a normal year.

Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?

Under no circumstance should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans.

Religious Liberty

Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.

Strongly Agree

Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.

Strongly Agree

I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.

What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?

Governments may make no laws respecting an establishment of religion or prohibiting the free exercise of religion.

It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.

Strongly Disagree

I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.

Strongly Disagree

How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?

We should eliminate Federal meddling with healthcare, including termination of Medicare. Medicaid, the FDA and the CDC. Libertarians favor a free market health care system. We recognize the freedom of individuals to determine the level of health insurance they want (if any), the level of health care they want, the care providers they want, the medicines and treatments they will use and all other aspects of their medical care, including end-of-life decisions. People should be free to purchase health insurance across state lines. Should backup be needed, that may be provided by voluntary associations of people with a sense of responsibility to their local communities.

National Security

The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.

What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?

One threat of terrorism is that the government may use the threat to justify trampling on our individual rights. As to the threats of violence, whether foreign or domestic, the events of 9/11 reminded us that the people are the ultimate defense of our lives and liberty. The professional military muddled in an intelligence vacuum and sent the only two available fighters out over the Atlantic to protect against an imagined attack. Meanwhile, the unarmed passengers on the fourth plane used their hand-held devices to gather information from personal and public sources and pooled their resources to bring down the plane. The obvious conclusions are to bring the military home to guard our country, to make intelligence summaries available to the public, to keep our citizens well-armed, and to stop infringing on individual rights in the name of security.

I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.

Strongly Agree

State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.

Strongly Disagree

Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.

Strongly Disagree

Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?

Everyone should be encouraged to immigrate to the U.S. States may impose public health restrictions, such as quarantines. Immigrants may be extradited to other countries in accordance with due process.

Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.

Strongly Disagree

Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.

I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.

Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.

I was raised as a Roman Catholic, but am now an atheist. Like most humans, I grew up with an instinctive sense of right and wrong, a love of family, and a sense of responsibility to my community.

When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?

No Answer

Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.

As a libertarian, I am very conservative on economic matters and very liberal on social matters. The only just function of government is to secure the rights of the people, which do not include any right to another person's labor. Social goals with such names as social justice, greater equality, and economic security are appropriate goals for voluntary associations of people with a sense of responsibility to their local communities.

Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?

The foundations of American democracy are the principles proclaimed in our Declaration of Independence. Everyone has the same birthright. You have rights because everyone has them, regardless of the circumstances of their birth. The only just function of governments is to secure everyone's rights. If a government fails to secure our rights, if it tramples on anyone's right, it is our right, it is our DUTY, to alter or abolish it. Abolish the police? Abolish the Constitution? The Libertarian Party offers the alternative, a peaceful transition to greater individual liberty, to let you live your own life in your own way. Do your duty. Vote Libertarian.

Criminal Justice

Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.

Strongly Disagree

2nd Amendment

What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?

Other Important Issues

I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.

I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.

Strongly Agree

Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.

Strongly Disagree

The Electoral College should be abolished.

Strongly Disagree

In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?

1) Repeal all Federal immigration restrictions, all of which exceed the powers granted to Congress in the Constitution. They are immoral and inhumane infringements on human rights. Because these laws are unconstitutional, no current resident is illegal. States may impose appropriate quarantines or similar controls. 2) Stop requiring preparation of individual income tax returns, which amounts to involuntary servitude, invades privacy, and compels individuals to testify against themselves. Instead, have the IRS prepare a return for each individual, which the individual may modify or not. 3) Repeal all tariffs, which are known causes of depressions.

Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?

There is substantial evidence that racism remains widespread. However, the threat to domestic security is mostly local, where the police force is not under control. The police should not be allowed to arrest without a warrant. The exception is a immediate threat of injury or death, in which case everyone has the responsibility to intervene. The absence of bystander assistance should be prima facie evidence that there was no such threat. Police should be held to the same standard of behavior that would apply to a bystander.
