Human life begins at conception and deserves legal protection at every stage until natural death.
Abortion providers, including Planned Parenthood, should not receive taxpayer funds or grants from federal, state, or local governments.
I support the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which requires health care providers to provide life-saving treatment for infants who survive an attempted abortion.
Under what circumstances should abortion be allowed?
The topic of abortion has been politicized in order polarize voters. Everyone should agree that we should strive to reduce abortions. Since the state of Oregon is left-leaning, in order to reduce the abortion rate we must use preventative methods first and foremost, and thereby reduce the number of unwanted pregnancies. This can be accomplished in part by making contraceptives more readily available and providing educational resources about the reproductive cycle.
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has a livable income.
Free enterprise and the right to private property are essential elements of a productive economic system.
How would you guarantee Social Security benefits for future generations?
Foreign policy ultimately effects domestic policy. By ending wasteful spending on wars that undermine our national security (e.g. Afghanistan) we will have abundant resources to provide Social Security benefits for future generations of Americans.
What government spending would you reduce in order to balance the budget?
Under what circumstances should taxpayers help pay off existing student loans?
State funded education has become increasingly privatized. After the 2008 recession, state governments reduced funding for public universities. However even when the economy recovered, that funding was not restored. Instead of asking tax-payers to provide additional funds to help pay off student loans, the state government should properly allocate its resources to public universities so that tuition becomes more affordable again.
Governments should not discriminate against individuals, organizations or small businesses because of their belief that marriage is only a union of one man and one woman.
Religious liberty is at risk in the United States and deserves the highest level of protection in the law.
I promise to protect the freedom of Christians to share the Gospel and to practice Biblical principles.
What does "separation of church and state" mean to you?
Separation of church and state means that the government does not interfere with the religious practices of an institution so long as the practices of that institution do not violate the individual liberties of its members and their children.
It is the government’s responsibility to ensure everyone has health insurance.
I support the elimination of private healthcare insurance.
How would you promote healthcare coverage that is adequate, affordable and accessible for all?
I propose that we re-structure the medical system into various tiers based on the credentials of the medical professionals in each tier. For example, instead of filtering out medical students at the University level and making them compete for entry into the best medical schools, different tiers of medical service could have different requirements for medical students. A lower tier medical sector could require physicians to have less schooling than a higher tier medical sector, so that the salaries of the lower tier physicians would be lower along with the cost of healthcare. The justification for this system is that lower quality medical care is still superior to no medical care at all, or going into medical bankruptcy for high quality medical care that is unaffordable. A tiered medical system provides a middle ground between choosing to have no medical coverage at all or paying high insurance premiums for high quality coverage.
The best way to maintain peace is through a strong military.
What should the United States do to help eradicate the threat of radical Islamic terrorism?
Right now the wars in Syria and Afghanistan are putting future generations of Americans at risk of terrorist retaliation due to U.S. military action in these regions. Over 5,000 Afghan civilians are either killed or injured every month due to our continued military presence. Many of the friends and relatives of these people will resent the U.S. for these calamities. The media is lying to the the public about the true reason for our continued military presence: resources, as Afghanistan has the largest untapped lithium reserve in the world, valued at over $1 trillion. To dampen the threat of Islamic terrorism, we must first ensure that we are not hurting the civilians of these nations.
I am in favor of construction of a wall and other necessary infrastructure on our border that gives complete control over entering and exiting the United States.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) should be abolished.
State and federal funds should be denied to any public or private entity, including but not limited to sanctuary cities, that are not in compliance with immigration laws.
Employers should be required to use E-verify to confirm the eligibility of their employees to work in the United States.
Who should be allowed to immigrate to the U.S. and under what circumstances?
Foreign nationals that go through the legal immigration customs process should be allowed entry.
Taxpayer-funded public education should be guaranteed through college.
Judeo-Christian values established a framework of morality which is necessary for our system of limited government.
I support adding sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression as protected classes in non-discrimination laws.
Briefly describe your spiritual beliefs and values.
I believe that God is infinite and exists in everyone and everything. My spiritual beliefs are aligned with Gnostic Christianity, Taoism, and Indigenous religions.
When you consider your views on a wide range of issues from economic and social matters to foreign policy and immigration, which of the following best describes you overall?
Please provide publicly available information validating your answer to the previous question.
With regards to foreign policy, Democrats and Republicans have nearly the same position, which is based on manipulating public opinion so that we become complacent to war profiteering and resource exploitation. This is not the original intention of our military and it is highly disrespectful to have our soldiers risk their lives in seemingly endless wars that are ultimately aimed at resource exploitation rather than national security. By withdrawing our troops from Afghanistan and Syria we will save billions of dollars that can go to supporting our infrastructure and paying off the national debt.
Have you ever been convicted of a felony or been penalized for sexual misconduct? If so, please explain.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about you?
I want to see our country united. The media purposely polarizes voters into categories, and so we have been divided by a political system that pretends to have our interests in mind. Now is the time to come together. We have far more in common then we are made to believe. As a U.S. representative I will do my best to ensure that the views of all voters in my district are represented and will always strive to find a solution that works for all.
Mandatory minimum sentencing should be required and enforced for violent crimes.
What restrictions on gun ownership are needed to protect public safety?
A background check and mental health screening should be performed before the sale of a firearm.
I support BDS (boycott, divestment, and sanction) against Israel if they refuse to allow the creation of a Palestinian state.
I support the legalization of recreational marijuana.
Reparations should be given to people on the basis of race.
The Electoral College should be abolished.
In priority order, what three areas of legislation do you propose to author or sponsor if elected?
1) Ending the wars in Syria and Afghanistan 2) Protecting the first amendment, ensuring that Americans have the right to privacy, and internet neutrality 3) Providing support for 4th generation fission power generation
Is racism a threat to domestic security in the United States? Why or why not?
Racism can threaten domestic security in many ways. For example, when average interest rates for home loans are higher for members of a particular race without normalizing for other variables such as the credit score of the individual, it creates economic inequity which can make it more difficult for members of that race to improve their socio-economic well being.
